Job Description

The Infrastructure Telecommunication Design Technician (ITD Tech) works under the supervision of a Telecommunications Systems Engineer or user agency personnel. They manage or oversee all aspects of one or more IT telecommunications projects, interacting with mid-level officials at the user agency and/or private sector. Responsibilities include providing technical direction, coordinating project tasks, customer relations, permit acquisition, concept development, construction coordination, and contract closeout.

The ITD Tech reviews architectural and engineering drawings to ensure telecommunications and low-voltage system requirements are correctly incorporated, including industry-standard symbols and legends. They design, create, and modify detailed telecommunications floor plans covering systems such as voice/data wiring, electrical outlets, access control, intrusion alarms, security cameras, wireless systems, and main/intermediate distribution frame rooms, utilizing AutoCAD and Visio software.

Required skills include customer service, decision-making, flexibility, interpersonal skills, leadership, organizational awareness, problem-solving, communication, capital planning, information management, systems integration, infrastructure design, and technology awareness.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years of extensive experience with architectural engineering low voltage plans, with at least 3 years in a lead role.
• 2 years of knowledge in low voltage systems infrastructure design.
• Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or Engineering field, with AutoCAD certification (verified). Additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• RCDD Certification in cabling.
• 3 years of active involvement in telecommunications infrastructure design.
