Position: Project Manager

Location: Austin, TX (on-site)

We are seeking an experienced and highly effective Project Manager to lead and oversee complex survey projects and support the strategic and operational success of the Land Surveying Group. The Project Manager is responsible for managing multiple high-impact projects, driving financial performance, mentoring staff, and strengthening client relationships.

This role serves as a leader within the group, providing guidance on project execution, staffing, and technical delivery while partnering with leadership to support business growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Surveyor (P.S.) with strong leadership capabilities, proven project management expertise, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the project leader responsible for successful delivery of complex or high-profile survey projects.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance guidance to Project Surveyors, and technical staff.
  • Serve as a back-up field crew member when needed.
  • Review and oversee technical deliverables to ensure adherence to QA/QC standards and best practices.
  • Support and guide complex boundary resolutions, title analysis, and survey strategy decisions.
  • Coordinate with Field Team Leaders and Crew Chiefs to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality field operations.
  • Preparation of Location Control Route Survey Plats
  • Review of title and encumbrance reports
  • Preparation of Right of Way Parcel Plats and Legal Descriptions
  • Preparation of additional Right of Way Engineering documents, Parcel Documentation, and Area Computations
  • Right of Way Plan Development
  • Process field data into topographic surveys (a plus but not required)
  • Analyze record documents and establish layout property lines, alignments, and easements
  • Download LiDAR, aerial photography and other GIS data from public domain sites
  • Support proposal development, fee estimates, and contract negotiations.
  • Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads and stay current with industry trends.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, professional organizations, and industry events.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Depending on licensure and experience, may also serve as a Project Surveyor, Staff Surveyor, Crew Chief, or CAD Technician on assigned projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPSL) license required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive surveying experience, including leadership as a Crew Chief or similar role, and including project management responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surveying principles, practices, and field safety standards.
  • Proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and related field equipment.
  • Strong understanding of boundary law, ALTA standards, right-of-way, and construction staking.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project financials, staffing, and client relationships.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and over radios for coordination and safety.
  • Regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Operate basic hand tools to drive stakes or nails into ground surfaces such as soil, asphalt, or concrete; excavate small areas for monument installation; and clear vegetation or brush as necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Walk across uneven or rough terrain and wade through shallow bodies of water to access and evaluate project sites.
  • Maintain situational awareness and exercise sound judgment to ensure personal safety while working in proximity to vehicular traffic, heavy machinery, and active construction environments.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a computer while performing drafting, analysis, and coordination tasks.
