About the Opportunity
Parisi Portfolio is seeking an experienced Project Manager, Interior Design to join its collaborative design team in San Clemente, California.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced interior design professional who can successfully balance creative design, technical execution, and project management. The Project Manager will take ownership of multiple commercial interior design projects, primarily within multifamily new construction, and help carry them from early design development through construction administration and installation.
The ideal candidate understands that successful project management in an interior design environment means more than managing schedules. You'll need to understand the design itself, anticipate technical challenges, communicate confidently with clients and contractors, and keep projects moving without needing constant direction.
This position will report to the Design Director and collaborate closely with firm leadership, designers, Assistant Project Managers, consultants, contractors, and clients.
What You'll Do
Design & Project Execution
- Manage multiple interior design projects at various stages of development.
- Take projects from initial design direction through schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, furniture coordination, and installation.
- Build upon initial design concepts and mood boards provided by design leadership.
- Develop creative, functional design solutions appropriate to the project, location, demographic, and client vision.
- Select and coordinate finishes, flooring, wall treatments, lighting, materials, and other design elements.
- Develop elevations, reflected ceiling plans, and other project drawings.
- Create and/or oversee construction-document sets using AutoCAD.
- Ensure design intent remains consistent throughout all phases of the project.
Construction Administration
- Coordinate closely with architects, contractors, structural engineers, lighting consultants, and other project partners.
- Review and respond to submittals and RFIs.
- Resolve design and material issues that arise during construction.
- Review specified materials and finishes to ensure accuracy and consistency with approved designs.
- Communicate design changes and construction-related issues clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in site visits, punch walks, and project installations.
- Maintain timely responses to contractor requests to help keep construction schedules moving.
- Own project timelines, priorities, deliverables, and communication across multiple concurrent projects.
- Proactively identify potential roadblocks and bring forward solutions.
- Maintain clear internal project updates and flag risks before they become larger issues.
- Delegate appropriate tasks to Assistant Project Managers and junior designers while maintaining final accountability for project quality.
- Review team members' work before it advances through the internal review process.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less-experienced members of the design team.
- Partner with the firm's furniture-focused designer to ensure furniture selections align with the overall design vision.
- Coordinate with the internal procurement function regarding product availability, reselections, and other issues that could affect the project.
Client Management
- Serve as a confident, knowledgeable point of contact throughout assigned projects.
- Present design work and recommendations to clients.
- Clearly explain the reasoning behind design decisions.
- Manage feedback and communicate project changes effectively.
- Build productive relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
Required / Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Approximately 8 to 10 years of relevant commercial interior design experience preferred.
- Strong experience within multifamily interior design strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects through multiple phases of the commercial design process.
- Hands-on experience with construction documents.
- Strong understanding of construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, consultant coordination, and contractor communication.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience coordinating with architects, contractors, engineers, consultants, and vendors.
- Strong understanding of interior materials, finishes, specifications, and design detailing.
- Ability to successfully balance strong creative design sensibilities with technical project requirements.
- Comfortable working directly with clients and presenting design concepts.

We'd Also Love to See

- Experience producing complete construction-document sets.
- Familiarity with Procore or another construction-management platform.
- Previous experience mentoring junior designers or Assistant Project Managers.
- A portfolio demonstrating both strong design creativity and technical project execution.
What Success Looks Like
The successful Project Manager will be someone who can take genuine ownership of their work.
You won't simply identify a problem. You'll be comfortable saying:
“Here’s what's happening, here’s what needs to be addressed, and here’s how I recommend we move forward.”
You’ll also understand which parts of a project require your direct involvement and which responsibilities can appropriately be delegated while still taking responsibility for the final product. This ownership mindset was a major theme in the client's description of the successful hire.
