Job summary

QTS Data Centers in Ashburn, Virginia is seeking a Project Manager III to lead complex, cross-functional programs to optimize data center facilities. This role will require strong project management expertise and the ability to communicate effectively across multiple teams.

Job description

The Project Manager III will lead complex, cross‑functional programs focused on improving, standardizing, integrating, and optimizing data center facilities across the company portfolio. This role manages projects involving site assessments, infrastructure gap resolution, operational readiness, customer‑impacting remediation, facility improvements, and technical system transitions. It facilitates communication among systems engineering, network engineering, security, data center operations, and contractors, ensuring alignment with company standards and delivery expectations. The project manager turns complex issues into actionable plans, coordinates execution across multiple workstreams, and provides clear reporting to leadership on progress, risk, schedule, budget, and business impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with systems, network, and security engineering teams to complete technical discovery and validate project scope.
  • Apply project management expertise to ensure accurate and timely delivery of infrastructure services and solutions.
  • Collaborate with team managers and technical resources to identify project approach, deliverables, tasks, dependencies, and resourcing needs, particularly as they relate to infrastructure and data‑center‑based technologies.
  • Develop and actively manage detailed project plans, identifying applicable phases, milestones, tasks, resources, deliverables, and due dates using standard project management practices.
  • Review proposed changes to project plans and facilitate stakeholder alignment to approve and implement beneficial changes.
  • Manage multiple projects and workstreams in a deadline‑driven environment, ensuring commitments are met and risks are addressed proactively.
  • Continuously monitor and report on project status to leadership, including schedule, risks, issues, and required escalations.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional activities to support infrastructure readiness, operational handoff, and successful project closeout.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of internal processes, documentation, and delivery standards within Technology Delivery.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, project management, or other related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Seven or more years of project management experience.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience building detailed technical project plans and task dependencies based on technical familiarity and stakeholder interviews.
  • Experience managing complex, strategic programs with multiple sub‑projects/workstreams.
  • Experience working in data center environments.
  • U.S. citizenship required by law due to federal customer contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of data center/critical environment concepts, such as space, power, cooling, and connectivity.
  • Strong knowledge of technologies found within data center architecture, such as routers, switches, firewalls, server components, storage, and virtualization.
  • Experience with project management applications and visualization tools such as MS Project, Smartsheets.
  • PMP certification.
