Primary Purpose:

The PM-Research supports diagnostic test development, validation, research, and other innovation projects by acting as a central support figure throughout the project lifecycle. This position requires fostering collaboration, documenting progress, and ensuring the success of large-scale and complex initiatives. The Project Manager collaborates closely with Scientific Management, scientific staff, Medical Directors, vendors, and external sponsors to ensure scope is communicated and project milestones and deliverables are completed successfully and on schedule. The PM serves as a liaison between technical and non-technical departments to ensure all targets and requirements are met. This position demands a proactive approach to managing projects across various scientific disciplines.

Essential Functions:
  • Manage ARUP research projects, including developing and monitoring project timelines, deliverables, communications, overseeing project scope, and other project requirements.
  • Support Scientific Managers, Scientists, and Medical Directors as a member of project leadership.
  • Organize project requirements, translate them into defined scope, and ensure documentation and communication of project scope are well-maintained.
  • Create and execute project charters and other project plan documents, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs.
  • Gain a comprehensive technical understanding of the project background.
  • Communicate risks and issues to stakeholders, including impacts to timelines, and facilitate troubleshooting efforts.
  • Coordinate project milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
  • Guide projects from initiation to successful completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Produce and maintain project dashboards for communication of progress to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Understand and ensure adherence to diagnostic test validation policies and procedures, where applicable.
  • Maintain professional relationships with sponsors, stakeholders, team members, vendors, and consultants.
  • Serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical departments to ensure alignment with targets and requirements.
  • Act as a central support figure throughout the project lifecycle, focusing on fostering collaboration and ensuring the success of large-scale and complex initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other departments within ARUP to facilitate test transfer between departments.
  • Establish and maintain communication with stakeholders, including leading meetings and hosting stakeholder visits as necessary.
  • Review deliverables prepared by the team before passing to clients, sponsors, or stakeholders.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of project status and use strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills to keep projects on track.
  • Identify resources needed and assign responsibilities for a project, independently or in collaboration with Scientific managers.
  • Understand the business challenges proposed by the scientific project team and contribute to resolution.
  • Analyze project return on investment, profitability, revenue, and utilization using Business Value Models (BVMs).
  • Manage project budget, including creating the budget, tracking expenses, and invoicing as needed.
  • Follow project management methodologies as defined by PMI and ARUP policies and procedures.
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of projects and their scope.
  • Minimize exposure and risk on projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: Occasionally moving between work sites and inside the office to access files, machinery, etc.
  • Communication: Frequently communicating with others.
  • PPE: Use of personal protective equipment required in a biohazard laboratory environment per CDC and OSHA regulations.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: Conduct oneself in accordance with all ARUP policies and procedures.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or negligible force frequently.
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing, or working primarily with fingers.
  • Vision: Close, far, and peripheral visual acuity for various tasks.

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Bioinformatics or a related field.

Preferred

Master's Degree or higher in Project Management or related field.

Experience
Required

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field, Medical Laboratory Science, Bioinformatics, or Data Science, with two years of managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, or a non-STEM degree with relevant clinical laboratory experience and project management experience. Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of all project management phases as per PMI, and technical acumen.

Preferred

Experience in diagnostic test development and validation, regulatory requirements, MBA or MA in Project Management, PMI PMP certification, Lean Six Sigma, and experience with various project management software and methodologies, including Agile.

Licenses & Certifications
Preferred

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
