Description

The Project Manager I is responsible for successfully managing all planning, technical, quality, and commercial aspects of project delivery, as well as supporting customer field commissioning requirements.

Requirements
Professional Communication
  • Manages approval process for all required customer approvals, including drawings; communicate to customer on any project schedule impacts, how timeline will be impacted and potential options to mitigate slip.
  • Ensures all documentation – commercial, technical, quality, logistics/shipping – is appropriately provided
  • Advises on lead times with quotes and product orders
  • Facilitates project meetings with clients, and proactively tracks all project-related action items.
Technical Engineering Competence
  • Develops project approach and works with assigned engineers to provide conceptual sketches, general arrangement drawings, and basic one-line electrical diagrams; prepares “job traveler”
  • Engages with customers on all technical questions
  • With input from engineering team, recommend design and specification options based on customer application
  • Assists in providing commissioning and field support on projects as required
  • Demonstrates proficiency to achieve high-quality results through continual attention to detail and anticipation of potential problems during the early planning and design review stages
Budget Management/Financial Acumen
  • Takes responsibility for maximizing job profitability;
  • Maintains awareness of quoted budget and proactively seeks opportunities for margin improvement.
  • Regularly reviews project profitability and course corrects as necessary.
  • Manages customer and supplier-related issues regarding changes in project scope, cost, and change orders
  • Conducts post job review: ensuring all Epicor details are accurate including materials issues and job profitability
Schedule Management
  • Develops project schedule and takes overall responsibility for schedule performance and on‑time delivery
  • Confirms project schedule (approved by master scheduler) meets customer needs; flags and addresses any potential production schedule issues
  • Insures timely project kick‑off meetings, design reviews, and production handovers in-line with the defined project schedule
  • Coordinates schedule with operations to ensure shop capacity is available to meet commitments
Risk Management
  • Reviews customers specifications and IE proposals to have a clear understanding and awareness of project scope and requirements while checking for accuracy and assessing other applicable risk factors.
  • Clarifies any exception to specifications with customer during Kick‑Off meetings, and operations during Pre Production meetings.
  • Identifies potential risks to schedule, quality and production. Actively mitigates risks through clear communication and identifying alternate solutions to prevent issues and rework
Change Management
  • Maintains intimate awareness of customer requirements and quoted scope to ensure the interests of IE, customer, and any engineering or other intermediaries are met.
  • Proactively manages customer change order process, documentation, and communication, with guidance of more senior PM’s or engineering managers.
  • Consults with regional sales manager/AE on any customer “scope” disagreements/change orders. Jointly negotiates proposals for handling issues in both customer and IE best interest.
  • Limits IE financial risk & exposure by coordinating the receipt of updated POs before proceeding with significant adders
Resource Management
  • Manages all internal/external project stakeholders for successful and timely project execution. This includes assisting in high level oversight of assigned engineering staff, customers, vendors, procurement, and production to ensure resources are available to hit communicated schedule targets.
  • Coordinates limited commissioning, production outsourcing, field support, or warranty requirements.
Other Essential Duties
  • Assists Application Engineers as needed
  • Punctual. Maintains regular and consistent job attendance.
  • Interfaces well with both internal and external customers.
  • Follows and complies with IE Core Values.
  • Follow and comply with IE safety program including following IE’s Cardinal Safety Rules.
  • Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.

Education/Experience:

BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or technical field with one year experience in design, commissioning, or cost estimating; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blue prints and drawings, P&ID’s, general business reports, government regulations such as OSHA, MSHA, NEC, NAFPA, UL, etc.. Ability to write professional level RFP’s, RFQ’s and supplement technical drawings and reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with project‑engineering team, manufacturing personnel, and customers to ensure successful completion of projects. Understanding of role of contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendum, change orders, etc.

Math Ability:

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as electrical load ratios, building capacity, design dimensions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and mechanical/electrical voltage calculations as will as multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.

Ability to calculate engineering formulas, operation costs, production costs, determine profit margins, discounts, read and understands cash flow statements, parts pricing, discounts and production overrun costs.
