Job Overview

Become a Project Manager - Hydroelectric Capital Projects at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you’ll support the delivery of complex hydroelectric capital projects in the Sierra Nevada mountains, helping modernize critical infrastructure that has been operating for over a century. You are responsible for managing assigned phases and workstreams of project execution, including budget and schedule tracking, procurement support, regulatory coordination, construction oversight, and project close‑out, while working under the guidance of senior leadership. Based out of Big Creek with a flexible hybrid schedule, the role offers meaningful exposure to field operations and hands‑on project experience. With access to a long‑term portfolio of hydroelectric projects, this position provides strong technical development, stability, and pathways for career advancement.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the activities of one or more moderate to large, mid‑term to long term projects or programs with responsibility for scope, schedule, cost, and risk in accordance with organization and company policies.
  • Develop plans, budgets, and resources; direct activities and actions; determine deliverables; develop strategy and business cases; lead the development and management of the project schedule and budget; manage the project change control process.
  • Lead a large team of professionals and project managers (combination of SCE and supplemental ICs and leaders) and contractors in the development and execution of major projects and programs; provide strategic and tactical leadership and oversight of work.
  • Engage with all levels of management and act as a key consultant for functional and business issues; regularly present to executive and senior management on project related issues and prescribed milestones for approval.
  • Provide overall project leadership for safety, ensuring the design incorporates the latest standards and requirements and that the work is conducted injury‑free.
  • Hold a high level of fiscal responsibility and approval authority related to projects; lead the development of cost estimates, project and program budgets, approve expenditures, and review project expenditures for appropriateness (support SOX financial accountability).
  • Initiate projects, form and develop project teams, lead project development, including preferred and alternative project scope, lead environmental assessment development inclusive of state and federal license applications, represent SCE with state and federal agencies, lead execution planning (engineering, permit acquisition, land acquisition, construction planning, material procurement), project execution strategy development, contract development and execution, contract management, contractor oversight, testing plans, quality assurance program and plans, and project close‑out.
  • Ensure the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Seven or more years of experience in construction project management.
  • Must possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of construction project management experience driving scope, schedule, and budget accountability.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large, complex, high‑dollar infrastructure/hydro projects (e.g., multi‑year, multi‑stakeholder programs with budgets in the tens of millions).
  • 2+ years of owner‑side delivery of complex infrastructure programs with ability to develop and present business cases and budget/funding requests to governance bodies and senior leadership.
  • Working knowledge of environmental/regulatory compliance and permitting processes for infrastructure projects; ability to coordinate with agencies and internal SMEs.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 for developing and managing integrated schedules.
  • Strong procurement and contracting background, including writing RFPs, supporting contractor selection, and negotiating contracts/change orders in technically complex environments.
Additional Information
  • Work mode is hybrid; employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Employees are required to work and reside in the state of California unless otherwise noted.

  • The primary work location for this position is Big Creek, CA.
  • Position requires up to 60% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position. Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training before gaining un‑escorted access to the assigned work location and performing job duties.
