Job summary

Burnett Staffing Specialists in Houston seeks a Project Manager to develop and manage multiple HVAC projects, including plans, schedules, budgets, and resources for execution.

You will lead cross-functional teams, manage risks, coordinate with clients and vendors, and deliver projects on time and within budget, with up to 20% travel.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of direct project management experience in industrial equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience as Project Manager.
  • Offshore experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with manufacture of industrial HVAC and/or package skid systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops comprehensive project schedules for assigned projects covering engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
  • Identifies milestones and critical activities; communicates status to ensure on-time progress.
  • Monitors scope changes and manages Change Orders with clients and accounting.
  • Oversees project risks and develops contingency plans for budget, time and functionality issues.
  • Prepares and analyzes final cost reports; supports process improvements and project closeout.

The Project Manager is responsible and accountable for developing and managing multiple projects, including plans, schedules, budgets, and the identification of necessary resources for project execution. Prepare and manage budgets and timelines. Work with internal client management, vendors, stakeholders, and project team members to define project scopes, resource requirements, budgets, timelines, deliverables, and milestones. Manage the definition and refinement of project objectives and tasks and select effective courses of action to attain project goals. Manage projects throughout all phases of the development life cycle to completion. Manage risks throughout the life cycle of projects and develop contingency plans to manage potential budget, time delivery and functionality issues. Manage scope change utilizing management of change practices. The Project Manager efforts actively support our mission of ensuring reliable, durable and safe operations for our customers by furnishing the highest quality industrial HVAC systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops comprehensive project schedule for assigned projects that meets customer schedule requirements and provides a framework that allows to manage all phases of the overall project schedule, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, field installation and commissioning.
  • Develops (internal) Supplier Document Requirement List (SDRL) and oversees the delivery of all required items in accordance with scheduled requirements.
  • Identifies internal and external milestones and activities that are critical to project schedule and communicates with appropriate personnel to ensure work is proceeding on schedule.
  • Identifies potential delays and conflicts well in advance and communicates with appropriate parties to resolve. Brings unresolved problems to management's attention at a time when remedial action may be taken.
  • Oversees the schedule as the project progresses and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and circumstances. Identifies root cause for driven delays for use in process improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates with Production Manager to identify when upstream deliverables (eg drawing approval, BOM release, component purchases) must occur. Communicates deadlines and status to appropriate project personnel.
  • Organize and oversee project design reviews.
  • Participates in all client scheduling meetings and conference calls.
  • Visits jobsites during construction to personally assess project requirements, jobsite conditions, progression of work, subcontractor performance and quality of installation.
  • Identifies issues that have commercial impact (changes to scope, specifications, budget or schedule) and communicates with client regarding resolution. Utilizes appropriate judgment regarding the involvement of sales to resolve.
  • Initiates Change Orders with clients when scope deviates from the contract.
  • Processes project commercial agreements with the client and accounting group in a timely manner (change orders, purchase orders, etc.).
  • Validates contract project scope and communicates scope to the appropriate functional departments.
  • Defines scope and specifications for subcontracted work. Prepares bid documents for use by Field Services Manager to solicit proposals. Participates in review and qualification of bids.
  • Verifies all client and industry specifications are followed by the project team through all phases of the project.
  • Reviews all subcontractor schedules and incorporates into project schedules.
  • Manages milestone/monthly billings for projects.
  • Provides monthly project cost projection updates and distributes to appropriate personnel.
  • At the conclusion of the project prepares final job cost analysis. Identifies variances from project budget and determines reason. Holds job closeout meeting with personnel to review job performance and improvement opportunities. Prepares summary cost information that can be used for future estimates.
  • Attends and prepares documentation for Project Reviews as deemed necessary by the Manager of Projects.
  • Schedules and facilitates Project Lessons Learned for assigned projects using methodologies.
  • Responsible for the delivery of all project documents to client at the conclusion of the project.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives.
  • Communicates with clients in a timely manner on all project related issues, particularly those concerning project scope, schedule and budget.
Skills/Knowledge Required
  • Minimum of (7) seven years of direct related experience in Project Management. Industrial equipment experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, although equivalent experience as Project Manager can offset this.
  • Offshore experience preferred
  • Familiarity with manufacture of industrial HVAC and/or package skid systems preferred
  • Proficient in MS Project and MS Office Suite required
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Travel Required: up to 20%
  • Valid Texas driver’s license, clean driving record and insurance required
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English
