Project Manager in the Federal Market Sector will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing activities on single or multi-discipline projects of moderate to large scope involving architecture, engineering, planning, interior design or other areas of the firm’s practice. Senior Project Managers are also responsible for mentoring and overseeing the work of Project Managers.

Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Federal processes and criteria necessary to effectively lead, motivate, and communicate with a project team during scope and project execution
  • Work with the Managing Principal and Design Manager to develop and present projects to clients, contractors, project team members, AHJs, and members of the public through all stages of the project
  • Coordinate with Federal clients to ensure successful completion of projects that may involve either new construction or renovation
  • Facilitate a professional and successful relationship between Federal client, contractors, and the project team
  • Run project meetings and participate in management meetings
  • Actively support Managing Principals and Marketing in the Company’s Federal marketing and business development activities
  • Prepare contracts and fee proposals for MP review and participate in contract negotiations on large projects
  • Ensure staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures
  • Develop and manage project planning, budgeting, and critical project objectives
  • Verify project consultants are properly licensed and insured
  • Manage the work, training, and vacation of project staff
  • Assemble staff for project teams with input and concurrence from Managing Principals, Department Directors, and Department Heads
  • Work with, respond to, and take direction from Managing Principals and senior management
  • Mentor and develop Project Managers
  • Ability to travel is required
  • Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Perform Managing Principal duties as assigned
  • Monitor scope/schedule creep for potential additional services
  • Provide weekly progress reports to Federal Clients
  • Maintain project documentation in electronic form and Newforma
  • Assemble and maintain design discipline sheet mock-ups and work plans
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and schedules with input from each discipline and consultants
  • Facilitate project team meetings to review project scope, progress, schedule issues, coordination with consultants, and problem solving
  • Review RFI and shop drawing submittal responses for appropriateness and completeness
  • Prepare draft monthly invoices, 12-month invoice projections and monitor accounts receivable
  • Review and approve project-related expenses and consultant invoices
  • Assemble and review design “milestone” submittal deliverables and ensure completeness and quality of the submittal
  • Perform project closeout and archiving tasks
  • Schedule QC/QA and “gray team” reviews
  • Schedule and/or conduct periodic site visits during construction
Required Skills
  • A Project Manager will typically have significant experience as a Project Manager in a leadership role in the areas of the firm’s practice
  • Project Manager will have demonstrated skills and abilities to mentor Project Managers, lead large projects, and develop new business
  • Previous experience with Federal projects may be given additional consideration
  • Ability to prepare effective and concise documents
  • Possess technical precision and creative design skills
  • Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups
  • Have a client-oriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services

Required Experience

Education, Technology, and Experience

* A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, interior design or planning may be given additional consideration

* Additional consideration will be given for certifications such as:

* Licensure as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Interior Designer is preferred

* Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable

* Understanding of sustainable design principles and LEED AP accreditation is preferred

* Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect ongoing professional growth

* Senior Project Manager should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS OneDrive) and related tools

* Experience with Visual Planning, AIA Contract Documents, Newforma Project Center, and other MS 365 Apps is desirable

* A minimum of 10 years prior experience in an Engineering or multi-discipline Architectural and Engineering firm is desirable

* Knowledge of A/E Industry terms commonly utilized in the Federal market

Working Conditions

We prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties. While most work is desk-based, there may be times when standing, walking, bending and lifting of minimal weight are required. Our office environment is comfortable, has adequate lighting and temperature, and is free from noise, dust, and other hazards.
