Job summary

The Duke Clinical Research Institute seeks a Healthcare Facilities Project Manager to oversee construction, renovation, maintenance, replacement and upgrades across Duke Health facilities from planning through design, construction and occupancy. You will manage budgets and schedules, coordinate with FPDC, E&O and regulatory agencies, supervise consultants, and ensure compliance with codes.

A Bachelor's in Architecture/Engineering/Construction Management and 5+ years of healthcare facilities

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Experience: minimum five years in design, planning, evaluation and programming for institutional and/or health care buildings.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop facility programs and space planning strategies.
  • Analyze long-range space utilization and operational needs.
  • Prepare planning studies, reports, and recommendations.
  • Prepare Project Scope Statements.
  • Manage renovation, maintenance, replacement and upgrade projects.
  • Coordinate planning, design, budgeting, procurement, construction and closeout.

This position is a Healthcare Facilities Project Manager responsible for managing new construction, renovation, maintenance, replacement, and upgrade projects across Duke Health facilities from initial planning through design, construction completion and occupancy.

Work Arrangement - Onsite
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES
  • Project and Construction Management preferred.
  • Healthcare Facilities Planning and Design experience preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education - Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field of study.

Experience - Work requires a minimum of five (5) years' experience in design, planning, evaluation and architectural programming related to institutional and/or health care buildings and systems.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Key Responsibilities
Planning & Programming
  • Develop facility programs and space planning strategies.
  • Analyze long-range space utilization and operational needs.
  • Prepare planning studies, reports, and recommendations.
  • Prepare Project Scope Statements.
Facility Assessment
  • Evaluate building conditions, infrastructure, and facility performance.
  • Assess compliance with federal, state, and local codes.
  • Recommend facility improvements and future utilization strategies.
Project Management
  • Manage renovation, maintenance, replacement, and upgrade projects.
  • Coordinate planning, design, budgeting, procurement, construction, and closeout activities.
  • Supervise the selection, hiring and management of professional consultants and vendors engaged on projects.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Manage submittals for project funding with Finance and Leadership
  • Oversee specialized equipment procurement and installation.
  • Coordinate/develop the required Medical Equipment, Furniture, & Technology plans per project.
Stakeholder Coordination

Serve as liaison between:

  • Duke Health users and departments
  • Design professionals
  • Contractors
  • Regulatory agencies
  • Facilities Planning, Design & Construction (FPDC)
  • Engineering & Operations (E&O)
  • Communicate project scope, status, schedule, and budget updates.
Construction Administration
  • Resolve construction and renovation issues.
  • Assist users in prioritizing changes during construction.
  • Monitor project execution, inspections, and acceptance.
  • Assist with Transition and Go-live Activities.
Documentation & Standards
  • Maintain project records, drawings, specifications, and approvals.
  • Support development and enforcement of facility and construction standards.
  • Help establish material and construction specification guidelines.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $68,970.00 to USD $127,008.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
