Job summary

Ruder Electric Inc., part of The State Group, seeks an Estimator and Project Manager based in Kankakee, Illinois, to oversee multi-trade construction projects with full ownership of performance, budget, and delivery.

You will lead cross-functional teams, build strong client relationships, and drive projects forward with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. A results-driven leader will manage costs, navigate challenges, and ensure successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager in industrial construction or related internship preferred.
• Two-year degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Industrial, commercial electrical experience.
• Experience with estimating software (Accubid) and ERP purchasing systems.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Project Manager/Estimator, you will recognize, handle, and process incoming requests for quotations, information, etc.

Spend the majority of your time preparing estimates and working in the field.

Manage administrative and direct labor work while managing projects.

Interface with clients and contractors during pre- and post-tender applications to develop effective business relationships.

Ensure quality construction standards are followed.

Monitor and lead compliance with building and safety regulations.

Manage and mitigate risks.

Comply with State Group’s standards and operating procedures.

Lead, mentor, and develop direct and indirect reports.

Proactively anticipate and address project delays, cost issues, labor needs, and potential job fade.

Communicate and present project status to various stakeholders.

WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN OUR TEAM

5+ years of experience as a Project Manager in the industrial construction industry or a relevant internship preferred.

Prefer a two-year degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

Industrial, commercial electrical experience.

Experience with estimating software, preferably Accubid, and ERP purchasing systems.

OSHA Construction Training.

Intermediate MS Office skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Scheduling experience is a plus.

Time management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks effectively and a proven track record of success in a busy, deadline-oriented environment.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
