Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multi-discipline design and construction of facilities ranging from small upgrades to major modernization programs. You will drive scope, budget, schedules, and quality across campus projects, collaborating with internal teams, sponsors, and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field), or equivalent experience
  • At least seven (7) years of dynamic project management experience in planning, design, and construction of complex facilities
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, scheduling, design oversight, risk management, and quality control
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and effectively manage competing priorities
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet APL’s driving standards
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret level security clearance; US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Lead internal and external teams through all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with APL’s mission needs, budget, schedule, and quality expectations
  • Lead multiple construction, renovation, tenant fit-out, and capital renewal projects across APL’s 450-acre campus
  • Oversee procurement, budgeting, scheduling, design, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, leadership, and Laboratory sponsors from concept through completion
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project delivery
  • Develop and maintain effective vendor relationships that promote fairness, consistency, and timely performance
  • Ensure full compliance with APL standards, environmental and safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulation
  • Provide regular, accurate project updates and financial reporting to Laboratory leadership
