Job summary

Swoon is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead large-scale commercial and data center construction projects in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will oversee projects from pre-construction to close-out, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met while coordinating with customers, subcontractors, and field teams.

The role emphasizes managing structured cabling, telecom infrastructure, rack systems, and other critical components of complex builds, with oversight of GMP contracts

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial construction and/or data center project management experience.
• Experience managing installation of structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, rack systems, and related technologies.
• Experience overseeing projects valued at $1M+ and GMP contracts.
• Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Review RFPs, plans, specs, contracts to identify requirements, risks and opportunities.
• Serve as primary client contact and build strong relationships across the project lifecycle.
• Develop start-up, mobilization, resource, equipment, and labor plans.
• Coordinate with Operations and field teams to ensure materials, equipment, and manpower are available.
• Manage schedules, costs, resources, and contract requirements to meet timeline and budget.
• Lead meetings, provide progress updates and manage customer communications.
• Prepare and manage change orders with engineering and site teams.
• Oversee field installation activities and milestone achievement.
• Ensure QA/QC alignment with customer specs and industry standards.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead large-scale commercial and data center construction projects in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role will oversee projects from pre-construction and mobilization through implementation and final close-out, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to customer quality standards.

The ideal candidate has strong experience managing structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, rack systems, and large-scale construction projects, along with the ability to manage customers, subcontractors, vendors, and field teams.

What You’ll Do

• Review RFPs, construction plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to identify project requirements, risks, and opportunities.
• Serve as a primary client contact and build strong customer relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop project start-up, mobilization, resource, equipment, and labor plans.
• Coordinate with Operations and field teams to ensure materials, equipment, and manpower are available when needed.
• Manage project schedules, costs, resources, and contract requirements to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Manage subcontractors and vendors while identifying opportunities to improve project efficiency.
• Lead project meetings, progress updates, customer communications, and internal coordination.
• Work with engineering and site teams to prepare and manage change orders.
• Monitor field installation activities and coordinate with onsite teams to ensure project milestones are achieved.
• Partner with QA/QC teams to ensure installation meets customer specifications, quality plans, and industry standards.
• Track project costs and profitability and evaluate performance against project budgets and schedules.
• Ensure customer requirements, service-level agreements, and master schedules are met.
• Represent the company in customer meetings and project-related communications.
• Coordinate project close-out, customer acceptance, documentation, and final sign-off.
• Provide coaching and guidance to project team members and field personnel.
• Support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives across project operations.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of commercial construction and/or data center project management experience.
• Experience managing the installation of structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, rack systems, and related technologies.
• Experience managing large-scale projects valued at $1M+.
• Experience managing customer projects under Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contracts.
• Previous experience successfully completing telecommunications or structured cabling projects.
• Strong understanding of structured cabling technology, quality standards, safety requirements, and BICSI standards.
• Knowledge of general building codes and construction practices.
• Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, schedules, budgets, and customer expectations.
• Strong problem-solving, root-cause analysis, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects, deadlines, and competing requirements.
• Ability and willingness to travel overnight as required.
