These services include providing benefits through innovative life and health insurance plans, financial services, and customized insurance products for niche markets.

Position Summary

The Project Manager (BPMO) is responsible for business project definition, technical recommendations, testing, and project execution in support of the organization’s initiatives and strategies. The Project Manager (Business) provides leadership and direction for the cross functional business project team while ensuring development of business processes, products and services to customer requirements are within the allocated resources.

Expectations

  • With the support of Associate Business Process Analysts, business Process Analysts or Senior Business Analysts, elicits requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, and task and workflow analysis.
  • Serves as the liaison between internal and external customers, the Business Process Management Office and Administration.
  • Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into detail, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Develops task and milestone specifications based on requirements developed in coordination with Associate Business Process Analysts, Business Process Analysts or Senior Business Analysts.
  • Manages and modifies as needed a library of standard business project templates, including high level process flows designed to enhance understanding of the requirements.
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements.
  • Drives and challenges business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans.
  • Focuses on delivering value innovation in projects; solution and efficiency focused.
  • Collaborates with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
  • Efficiently and competently manages issues - when things go off plan (due to scope-creep, changed requirements, missed deadlines etc.) bring them back on plan or create a new plan.
  • Plans projects in order to accomplish goals within constraints such as time, cost and agreed quality standards.
  • Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Develops project plans and associated communication documents.
  • Proactively manages change in project scope, identifies potential crises and develops contingency plans.
  • Holds and chairs regular works meetings, motivates staff, manages conflicts and crises.
  • Determines the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyzes results and troubleshoots problem areas.
  • Understands the components of running a fiscally successful project.
  • Ensures requirements, functionality and resource allocations meet project deliverables based on the nature and scope of the project.
  • Manages/schedules tasks, deadlines and milestones for all stakeholders and resources.
  • Identifies and manages overall project dependencies and ensure project deliverables stay on-time, on-target and on-budget.
  • Defines project success criteria and disseminates to all involved parties throughout the project life cycle.
  • Conducts project post mortems and reports to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Communicates needed changes to development team.

Have the skill to compose thoughts and present them to management and executives in a clear and well thought out manner. Have the skill to organize complex principles into coherent and thought-provoking presentations (not literally PowerPoint). Have the skill to collect multiple thoughts (expressed in meetings) into tangible documents or visual representations.
  • Possess excellent memory skills. Have the skill to Interpretation of multiple expressions into one coherent thought.
  • Understand how to facilitate meetings. Have the skill to create participation; effective decision making; facilitating conflict resolution; meeting management; and process management tools.
  • Have the skill to recognize change in scope. Have the skill to effectively identify scope changes and assist in documenting change. Have the skill to ensure change orders are complete and accurate.
  • Understand the human emotional impact on customers, programmers and others when change is introduced. Have the skill to manage change in a manner that allows for impact analysis and planning the change impact. Have the skill to recognize change resistance verbalizations and provide additional details as appropriate. Have the skill to provide as much foresight as possible for the change. Have the skill to react appropriately to unforeseen impacts.
  • Have the skill to recognize budgeting considerations. Have the skill to set and manage critical path and milestones. Have the skill to recognize or predict critical path items and react quickly when they are adversely impacted. Possess flexibility to move with and champion ever increasing and fluid changes in direction based on strategic initiatives or other types of demands. Have the skill to change priorities and rearrange work per new strategic guidance.
  • Manage competing priorities routinely. Have the skill to keep efforts going when appropriate; do not forget de-emphasized priorities completely.

Requisites

  • PMP Certification desired but not required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience serving in a Project Manager role.
  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years insurance experience with strong knowledge of insurance terminology.
  • High level of proficiency in all FTJ business systems.
  • High degree of interaction with senior management; primary PMO contact for one or more business areas.
  • Understanding of business requirements and able ti implement them in a timely manner.
