Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead heavy civil construction projects from preconstruction through completion. This role is responsible for managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and field coordination to ensure safe, timely, and successful project delivery. The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing complex heavy civil projects, strong cost and schedule control skills, and the ability to effectively coordinate teams, subcontractors, and clients.

What You’ll Do
Project Management Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage project schedules and timelines to ensure on-time project delivery.
  • Monitor project budgets, track costs, and manage financial performance.
  • Identify potential cost overruns or savings and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead project buyout and procurement activities, including subcontractor and supplier selection and contract negotiation.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and ensure work meets contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, and field teams to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Ensure all work meets safety standards, quality requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Manage project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and project records.
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness.
Communication & Client Relations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for federal clients and project stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project status updates, including schedule progress and financial performance.
  • Lead project meetings and present information clearly and professionally.
  • Address client concerns promptly and maintain strong working relationships.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and support field operations.
  • Manage change orders and ensure scope modifications are properly documented, priced, and approved.
  • Provide project cost forecasts and financial reports to senior leadership.
  • Perform quality control oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks to prevent delays and budget impacts.
What You Bring
  • Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, procurement, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in project management platforms such as Procore or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 preferred.
  • Understanding of federal construction requirements, reporting, and compliance processes is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and client-facing abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience serving as a Project Manager in heavy civil or related construction.
  • Experience as Project Manager on at least two (2) design-build projects similar in size, scope, and complexity to large-scale federal or public infrastructure projects.
  • Experience serving as Project Manager on at least two (2) construction projects, each with a value of $10 million or more.
  • Demonstrated experience in client-facing project management roles.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or municipal clients preferred.
