Job summary

The Clary Group is seeking a Project Manager to oversee construction projects from preconstruction to closeout, guiding teams, subcontractors, and clients to deliver safely, on schedule, and within budget.

You will manage schedules, budgets, staffing, procurement, and change orders, drive quality control and safety, and report project performance to company leadership. Travel to project sites will be required.

Job description

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and completion of construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout. This position provides overall leadership and coordination for project teams, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and quality requirements.

The Project Manager serves as a primary point of contact between the company, client/EPC, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders and is accountable for the overall financial and operational performance of assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

• Manage construction projects from preconstruction and mobilization through substantial completion and final closeout.
• Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, procurement strategies, and staffing requirements.
• Coordinate closely with Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Engineers, subcontractors, and other field leadership.
• Monitor project progress against contractual milestones and identify potential schedule impacts before they affect critical activities.
• Lead project kickoff meetings, progress meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and client meetings as required.
• Ensure project teams are working from current drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and approved project documentation.
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover activities.
• Maintain responsibility for project budgets, cost forecasting, profitability, and overall financial performance.
• Review project costs and regularly update cost-to-complete forecasts.
• Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, subcontractor performance, and material costs.
• Review and approve project-related invoices, purchase orders, subcontractor billings, and other expenditures within established authority.
• Identify potential cost impacts and ensure change orders are properly documented, priced, submitted, and tracked.
• Support monthly project financial reviews and provide accurate projections for revenue, costs, and project margin.
• Identify opportunities to improve project profitability while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule requirements.

Contract & Change Management

• Understand and administer the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, and applicable project requirements.
• Identify scope gaps, additional work, changed conditions, delays, and other potential contractual impacts.
• Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation for RFIs, change orders, notices, claims, and schedule impacts.
• Ensure required contractual notices are submitted within applicable timeframes.
• Protect the company's contractual and financial interests throughout project execution.
• Maintain organized and complete project documentation to support change management and project closeout.

Client & Subcontractor Management

• Serve as a primary management-level point of contact for clients, EPC partners, owners, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Develop and maintain professional working relationships with project stakeholders.
• Manage subcontractor performance, including schedule, safety, quality, productivity, and contractual compliance.
• Coordinate subcontractor scopes to minimize conflicts, delays, and gaps in responsibility.
• Address project issues promptly and professionally while escalating significant risks to senior management when necessary.

Scheduling & Production

• Develop, review, and maintain project schedules in coordination with field leadership.
• Track production quantities and progress against established project goals and milestones.
• Review short-term look-ahead schedules and ensure labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors are aligned with upcoming activities.
• Identify schedule risks and develop recovery or mitigation plans when project performance falls behind.
• Coordinate material deliveries and equipment requirements with procurement and field teams.

Safety & Quality

• Promote and enforce the company's safety culture and expectations across all assigned projects.
• Work closely with Safety and field leadership to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, client requirements, and site-specific safety plans.
• Ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and established quality standards.
• Support quality control inspections, punch-list management, commissioning, and final turnover.
• Ensure deficiencies are documented, corrected, and closed in a timely manner.

Project Reporting

• Provide accurate and timely reporting regarding project schedule, production, financial performance, manpower, risks, and outstanding issues.
• Maintain project logs including RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement items, notices, and other critical documentation.
• Prepare regular project updates for company leadership.
• Identify significant project risks and communicate recommended mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent construction experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of construction management or project management experience preferred.
• Experience managing commercial, industrial, utility-scale solar, renewable energy, or other large-scale construction projects strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, contracts, and client relationships.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and project documentation.
• Experience with change-order management, cost forecasting, scheduling, and project controls.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management software.
• Ability to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Solar Construction Experience

For utility-scale solar projects, preferred experience includes:

• Mechanical installation, including piles, racking/trackers, and modules.
• DC and AC electrical installation.
• Underground electrical systems and trenching.
• Inverter/PCS installation and associated electrical equipment.
• Civil construction and site development.
• Medium-voltage collection systems and coordination with high-voltage scopes.
• Testing, commissioning, punch-list completion, and project turnover.
• Managing EPC/client relationships and multiple subcontracted scopes.
• Understanding production rates and manpower requirements for utility-scale solar construction.
