  • Identify and manage technical, regulatory, operational, schedule and cost risks.
  • Ensure safety, nuclear safety, industrial safety, quality and configuration control.

Job description

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, coordination, and successful completion of complex projects within an operating commercial nuclear power facility. This individual manages projects from initial scope development and engineering through procurement, construction, implementation, testing, turnover, and final closeout.

This position is typically assigned large, complex, or high-visibility nuclear projects, including plant modifications, equipment replacements, system upgrades, capital improvements, outage-related work, and other major station initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial nuclear projects from initial planning and scope development through engineering, procurement, construction, implementation, testing, turnover, and closeout.
  • Lead Joint Project Teams (JPTs) and coordinate activities across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Construction, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Radiation Protection, and Project Controls.
  • Develop and manage project scope, budgets, schedules, milestones, resource requirements, and execution strategies.
  • Monitor project cost and schedule performance and implement corrective actions when projects begin trending outside established targets.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks, including technical, regulatory, operational, schedule, cost, and implementation risks.
  • Manage plant modification and capital improvement projects in accordance with applicable station procedures, nuclear quality requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate engineering design activities, procurement of equipment and materials, construction activities, installation, testing, and final turnover to plant Operations.
  • Support project implementation during scheduled refueling outages, maintenance outages, and online plant conditions as required.
  • Ensure project activities are planned and executed safely while maintaining nuclear safety, industrial safety, quality, and configuration control requirements.
  • Provide regular project status updates to plant leadership, stakeholders, and project team members regarding schedule, budget, risks, issues, and major milestones.
  • Manage contractor and vendor performance and coordinate external engineering, construction, and equipment suppliers when applicable.
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for assigned projects and ensure appropriate communication and coordination between all participating organizations.
  • Manage multiple active projects and/or large project budgets while maintaining established project priorities and commitments.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong project management experience within the commercial nuclear power industry.
  • Experience managing nuclear plant modifications, capital projects, equipment replacements, system upgrades, or major maintenance projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary or Joint Project Teams (JPTs).
  • Strong understanding of the commercial nuclear project lifecycle, including engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing, turnover, and closeout.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, cost, resources, and performance risk.
  • Experience coordinating work with nuclear plant Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Construction, Quality Assurance, Radiation Protection, and Project Controls organizations.
  • Ability to manage large, complex, and multifaceted projects in a highly regulated operating environment.
  • Experience supporting project implementation during nuclear refueling outages is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of nuclear configuration management, quality assurance, corrective action, and plant modification processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with applicable NRC requirements, nuclear industry standards, and station procedures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and significant project budgets simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to nuclear safety, industrial safety, quality, and procedural compliance.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business Management, or a related technical field. Equivalent combinations of education, nuclear industry training, and directly related commercial nuclear project management experience may also be considered.
  • PMP certification is preferred but not required.
