Job summary

Ghilotti Construction Company is seeking a Project Manager to lead the overall direction, coordination, and financial success of assigned heavy civil construction projects. You will guide project teams, manage client relationships, and ensure safety, schedule, and budget targets are met.

The ideal candidate has strong construction management expertise, proven leadership, and the ability to deliver exceptional results for clients and stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction management practices and contracts.

Job Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, completion, and financial success of assigned construction projects. This position provides leadership to project teams, manages client relationships, oversees project execution, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong construction management expertise, leadership ability, business acumen, organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results for clients and project stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate company personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and project resources.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to project staff and field teams.
  • Support site safety initiatives and promote GCC’s Injury-Free Environment philosophy.
  • Assist with estimating efforts and participate in constructability reviews.
  • Develop and execute project plans, including project execution strategies and site logistics plans.
  • Oversee permitting processes and project compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and manage subcontracts, purchase orders, and procurement activities.
  • Manage project cost controls, budgets, forecasting, and change management processes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, designers, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and monitor progress toward completion.
  • Track project financial performance and prepare reporting for leadership and clients.
  • Prepare and review monthly project status updates.
  • Review subcontractor and vendor payment applications.
  • Coordinate owner billing and ensure timely submission of project invoices.
  • Lead project meetings, including pre-construction, progress, and closeout meetings.
  • Review inspections, testing documentation, and quality requirements.
  • Establish and maintain quality control procedures.
  • Support project closeout activities, including warranty and post-construction requirements.
  • Promote continuous improvement through cross-training and knowledge sharing.
Job Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, methods, and industry standards.
  • Experience with heavy civil construction projects, including lump sum and unit price contracts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of heavy civil construction experience required.
  • Advanced understanding of construction management practices, project controls, contracts, budgeting, and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and deliver successful projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides leadership and oversight for assigned Project Engineers, temporary staff, summer interns, and other project team members.

Conditions of Employment

Mental Demands

The employee must be able to analyze technical information, interpret contracts and specifications, solve problems, evaluate project data, and communicate effectively with employees, clients, regulatory agencies, and leadership. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make informed decisions.

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to communicate effectively and regularly perform duties involving sitting, standing, walking, and working in office and construction environments. The position may require occasional lifting of materials, tools, or equipment up to 50 pounds, as well as navigating active job sites.

This position requires working in both office and field environments, including construction sites and client facilities. Employees must follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when required. The work environment may involve moderate noise levels, outdoor conditions, and active construction activities.
