At Peak Performance Consulting (“PPC”) we specialize in third-party certified coating inspections, specification development, project oversight, and failure analysis. We serve asset owners and engineers in water/wastewater and midstream gas and oil sectors delivering expertise in steel and concrete coating systems. We’re seeking a proven Project Manager to elevate our field operations and strengthen relationships across our client and engineer networks.
Position Summary:
Our new PM will oversee the daily activities of 4–10 Certified Coating Inspectors working out in the field, across multiple projects, in multiple states across the USA. This role will ensure consistent quality and compliance in field reporting, photo documentation, and client communication. The PM will also play a key role in relationship management with both current and prospective clients and strategic coating manufacturers. A strong technical background in industrial coatings is essential, as is the ability to lead, mentor, and support a growing team of inspectors. This Hybrid position will require travel to job sites during various stages of the project, and as a growing company based in Portland, Oregon, we'd like our new PM to be based within an hour of Portland for ease of communication with upper management.
Key Responsibilities:
- A large part of this position will be to Supervise and support 4–10 Field Inspectors; ensure daily check-ins, performance tracking, time card accuracy, excellent communication with bookkeeping and upper management, and maintaining the highest quality standards to ensure the efficient execution of inspection tasks of each inspector individually and as a team.
- Coordinate inspection schedule of each current and future projects and allocate resources to meet project requirements and deadlines.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in daily and final inspection reports by conducting report reviews on a daily basis, edit and organize field reports, and upload reports with related pictures to Dropbox for storage and client delivery.
- Maintain and develop relationships with existing clients and prospective accounts.
- Rapidly address and resolve quality and/or personnel issues during an inspection to avoid non-conformances.
- To be able to review and understand technical specifications (Division 09 9600 or 099000) for industrial coating projects.
- Establish and maintain direct communication with key coating manufacturers (e.g., Induron, Tnemec, Sherwin-Williams, PPG).
- Conduct occasional site visits to ensure service consistency and project consistency, client communications, and overall alignment of the project.
- Collaborate with leadership to optimize field operations and client satisfaction.
Constant and Never-Ending Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to enhance the inspection processes and recommend improvements to management and team under supervision.
- Promote a culture of high quality, harmony, excellent communication, and continuous improvement within the inspection team under supervision.
- Personal improvement and continuing education of industrial inspection methodology, technical knowledge, relevant Standards of Practice we follow every day (AMPP, ASTM, ISO, etc.).
- Provide continued mentoring and training to the Field Inspectors to continually enhance team skills, knowledge of the industrial inspection process, and cooperation from the office to the field and back.
- Continually be aware of relevant updates on safety policies and procedures required for any current project.
- Excellent record keeping and ability to file as per PPC policies.
Daily/Weekly Activities (Technical Coordination):
- Coordinate all pre-inspection activities to assist inspector preparation and understanding of project/client specific requirements.
- Hold regular Teams meetings with field personnel to ensure inspection efficiency and accuracy of data collection and deliverables to clients.
- Maintain forward facing communication with client field and project personnel to continue to develop relationships and expand services provided.
- Act as the primary liaison between the inspection team, project managers, and clients to address technical queries and provide updates.
- Ensure 100% billable utilization of company resources. This utilization is for this PM position as well as inspectors supervised and their vehicles.
- Maintain record of project/client specific requirements for HSE and equipment documentation and certification.
Qualifications:
- AMPP Certified Coating Inspector a plus – (CIP 1 or 2 preferred).
- 10+ years of Project Management with experience in industrial coatings/inspections preferred.
- Deep knowledge of water/wastewater and midstream/downstream oil & gas environments.
- Strong familiarity with both steel and concrete protective coating systems.
- Prior experience managing inspection teams in high-stakes industrial projects.
- Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Dropbox, MS Office, PDF, basic reporting tools.
