Job summary

Hornblower Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager for our Bridgeport shipyard operations to lead new construction and vessel renovation projects. The role focuses on on-site oversight, schedule management, and cross-functional coordination with designers and contractors.

You will evaluate plans, budgets, and progress, produce detailed reports, and maintain strong client and contractor relationships. Travel to project sites in the US and abroad may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS in a technical discipline or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years of shipyard experience.
  • Experience with project scheduling software.
  • PMP certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Familiarity with ABS/USCG rules.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Project Manager, tracking labor costs, expenses, and timelines.
  • Create and maintain project schedule using MS Project.
  • Evaluate progress and quality of work by designers and contractors.
  • Review plans, hours, budgets, and expenditures.

Position Summary:

This position has responsibility for assisting in success of new construction, vessel renovation, and development projects throughout all project phases, on-site inspections and project control documentation and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as lead Project Manager with tracking all labor costs, expenses, and project timelines
  • Create and maintain project schedule using Microsoft project
  • Evaluate progress and quality of work being performed by designer and contractors
  • Evaluate project plans, work hours, budgets, and expenditures
  • Perform data and budget analysis and create reports as needed
  • Provide detailed construction status reports
  • Maintain professional relationships with all clients and contractors
  • Organize and host all on-site and virtual construction meetings
  • Efficiently and accurately communicate relevant project information to the project team
  • Review field inspection reports from Consultants throughout life cycle of the project
  • Assist the Program Manager with drafts and issuance of project proposals, RFP’s, tenders, budgets, cash flows and preliminary schedules
  • Issue contracts, Letters of Intent, Purchase Orders, etc.
  • Negotiate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors
  • Plan, procure Owner Furnished Equipment, and provide customer representation for shipyard work periods. This task will require some travel
  • Track all labor costs, expenses, and project timelines, and evaluate progress and quality of work being performed by designer and contractors
  • Maintain contract execution tracking log, including change orders
  • Control all project data throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • Prepare substantial completion certificates and ensure all project closeout documents are obtained and filed
  • Travel to project sites within the US and internationally as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • BS in a technical discipline or equivalent work experience is required. An advanced degree is preferred in a technical discipline associated with vessel construction or ship repair such as marine engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous shipyard experience
  • Experience creating detailed construction schedules with project scheduling software
  • PMP certification or equivalent is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of aluminum, steel, wood, & fiberglass vessel design and construction
  • Familiarity with classification society rules (ABS, USCG, etc.)
  • A familiarity with current passenger vessel regulations (i.e. USCG T & K boat regulations)
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a team and operational environment to manage systems
  • Experience with Word, Excel and organizational documentation file management systems
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to board vessels, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete inspections
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.
