Job summary

NYC Department of Design and Construction seeks Assistant Urban Designer to plan and coordinate construction across the five boroughs. You will assist with a portfolio of capital design projects, managing scoping, design, and procurement stages while using agency resources to meet objectives.

Selected candidates will monitor schedules, liaise with contractors and sponsor agencies, and prepare project communications and changes. Office location is in Queens with full-time hours.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience related to urban design development programs.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to item 1; however, a bachelor's degree in architecture is required for all candidates; graduate work may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate construction activities for capital projects.
  • Assist with a portfolio of design or construction projects across the five boroughs.
  • Serve as the key contact during scoping, design, and construction procurement phases.
  • Utilize agency resources to meet objectives and monitor completion schedules.
  • Inform Sr. Project Managers of scheduling, design, and construction issues; keep costs on budget.
  • Liaise between contractors, DDC, and sponsor agencies; maintain project history files and schedules; review projects and address issues.
  • Prepare change orders, project correspondence, and reports.

Job description

Hours: Full Time - 35 Hours

Only candidates who are permanent in the Assistant Urban Designer title or those who are reachable on the open-competitive list (exam #2039) and (exam# 5019) may apply. Please indicate a copy of your Notice of Result card or indicate if you are already permanent in the title. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings seeks Project Managers. The Project Managers will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating construction. The selected candidates will assist with a portfolio of capital design or construction projects throughout the five boroughs. The Project Managers will be assigned projects at various stages of design and construction, and will be the key contact throughout the scoping, design, and construction procurement phase. The Project Managers will utilize the agency’s technical resources to ensure that their projects meet DDC’s Commitment Plan objectives and follow up on completion schedules. The Project Managers will also apprise Sr. Project Managers of scheduling, construction, and design issues; keep costs within budget; liaise between contractors, DDC and sponsor agencies; maintain comprehensive project history files; coordinate project schedules; review projects; address construction and design issues; prepare change orders, project correspondence, and reports.

Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  • 1. A baccalaureate degree in architecture from an accredited college and one (1) year of full-time experience in planning, design, research, investigations and/or studies related to urban design development programs; or
  • 2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, a baccalaureate degree in architecture is required of all candidates. Graduate work leading to an advanced degree in architecture, urban design or city planning may be substituted for the one year of experience described above.
Preferred Skills

Candidates should have the ability to manage construction managers complete multiple multi-trade projects on schedule possess strong computer, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills and should be attentive to details.
