Job summary

MDS Staffing seeks a Mechanical Drafter to develop drawings on assigned projects, ensuring prints are accurate to customer specifications and timelines. You will work from quotes, prepare preliminary drawings, and verify specifications with sales before submitting for customer approval.

Upon approval, the job is scheduled for production and parts lists are prepared. You will perform production quality audits, document maintenance plans, and respond to customer challenges while pursuing design

Qualifications

• One year certificate from college or technical school with related experience or training.
• Ability to use CAE/CAD systems in equipment design.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Obtains job sheets from sales and prepares preliminary drawings based on quote specs.
• Consults with sales to verify specifications and submits drawings for customer approval.
• Schedules jobs for production and prepares parts list for Purchasing.
• Performs quality audits with production staff to ensure final product meets specs.
• Develops new equipment designs and improvements as directed.

Primary Objective of the Position:

Developsmechanicaldrawingsonassignedprojectsandensuresthataccurateprintsarecompleted according to the customer’s specifications and timelines.

Major Areas of Accountability:

• Obtainsjob sheet from salesquotation and preparespreliminarydrawingsbased onquote specifications, verifying price quotation against mechanical design.Consultswith the salespersontoverifyspecificationsonjobsheets.Thedrawingissubmittedtothecustomer forapprovalormodification.Uponapproval,thejobisscheduledforproductionandaparts list is prepared and submitted to Purchasing Agent.
• Conductsqualityauditsofprojectsinproductionbycommunicatingdailywithproduction staff on the manufacturing process; answers questions of production staff; resolves productionchallengeswithcustomersasnecessary;toensurethatthefinishedproduct meets specifications and customer’s expectations.
• Preparesdocumentationforequipmentincluding:partslist,prints,maintenancemanualfor eachcomponenttoensurethatthecustomerhascompleteandaccuratemaintenanceplans for the equipment.
• Respondstocustomer equipment challengesbyreviewing thecustomer file,determiningthenature ofthe challenge and developing asolution toensure thatthe equipment operates properlyand the customer issatisfied. Travel to the customer jobsitemaybe required.
• Research&developsnewequipmentdesigns&improvementstoexistingproducts,as directed,toexpandandimprovetheproductline.Preparesdrawingsaccordingtothe equipment requirements.Submitsdrawingsfor evaluation.Ifapproved, submitsto production for manufacturing.
• Preparespreliminarysalesdrawingsbyreceivingquotationandsubmittingprintswithquotation to the customer to assist in closing the sale.
• Performsotherresponsibilitiesandspecialprojectsasassigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Oneyear certificatefromcollegeor technicalschool;withone-yearrelated experienceand/ortraining;orequivalentcombinationofeducationandexperience ataminimum.Demonstratedabilitytousecomputer assisted engineering (CAE)systemsand computer assisted design systems inthe design of various equipment.
