Job summary

Blackfield Associates is seeking a Project Manager to join a global pharmaceutical manufacturer in Minnesota on a 12-month contract. You will act as owner’s representative across multiple capital project workstreams, guiding design through concept and basic design, and interfacing with Architecture & Engineering firms.

The role focuses on biologics manufacturing expansion, utilities recapitalization, warehouse modifications, and site master planning alignment, while ensuring GMP standards,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or related technical discipline.
• Experience delivering pharmaceutical or biotechnology capital projects.
• Experience managing design activities for greenfield and brownfield GMP facilities.
• Experience acting as owner's representative with Architecture & Engineering firms through concept/basic design.
• Strong knowledge of GMP regulations and regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting utility replacement, recapitalization, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Familiarity with facility expansion projects involving manufacturing, warehousing, utilities.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional coordination.
• Experience delivering projects within operational sites minimizing disruption.

Blackfield Associates are currently partnered with a global pharmaceutical manufacturer to support their search for a Project Manager to join their project based in Minnesota on an initial 12-month contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the owner's representative for multiple capital project workstreams during concept, preliminary, and basic design phases.
• Lead the design delivery of biologics manufacturing expansion projects, warehouse modifications, and site utility recapitalization programs.
• Serve as the primary interface between the organization and appointed Architecture & Engineering firms, ensuring effective communication, alignment, and timely delivery of design packages.
• Manage design scope, schedules, deliverables, and review cycles, ensuring projects progress in accordance with program objectives.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design reviews with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, Facilities, Automation, and Procurement stakeholders.
• Drive resolution of design comments, technical issues, risks, and project decisions to support timely project progression.
• Maintain oversight of design basis documents, user requirements, project assumptions, and change management processes.
• Support development of capital cost estimates, project business cases, and stage-gate approval deliverables.
• Ensure design solutions align with site master planning objectives, operational requirements, future capacity needs, and construction sequencing strategies.
• Oversee design considerations related to material flow, warehouse operations, cold chain requirements, utilities infrastructure, and manufacturing operations.
• Ensure designs account for tie-ins, shutdown windows, site logistics, and operational impacts within an active manufacturing environment.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements, GMP standards, engineering best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support procurement activities for long-lead equipment and design services.
• Prepare project reports, presentations, recommendations, and status updates for senior leadership and project governance teams.
• Coordinate interfaces with adjacent capital projects to ensure alignment across shared infrastructure, utilities, facilities, and site development activities.

Experience Required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
• Suficent experience delivering pharmaceutical or biotechnology capital projects.
• Proven experience managing design activities for greenfield and brownfield GMP manufacturing facilities.
• Experience acting as an owner's representative managing Architecture & Engineering firms through concept and basic design phases.
• Strong understanding of biologics manufacturing facilities, utilities infrastructure, warehouse operations, and regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting utility replacement, recapitalization, and infrastructure upgrade projects.
• Familiarity with facility expansion projects involving manufacturing, warehousing, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of GMP regulations, pharmaceutical facility design, and project governance processes.
• Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and stakeholder expectations.
