Technical Project Manager - Avionics / Aerospace
Miami, FL - Onsite
About the Role
We are seeking a technically driven Project Manager to lead complex aerospace and avionics development programs from initial requirements through qualification, production, and delivery.
This position requires more than traditional schedule tracking. The Project Manager will work directly with electrical, mechanical, software, systems, test, and manufacturing teams, participating in technical discussions and helping drive engineering decisions while maintaining ownership of program cost, schedule, scope, and risk.
- Lead new product development programs from requirements definition through qualification, certification, manufacturing, and customer delivery.
- Own program schedules, budgets, scope, milestones, risks, and overall execution.
- Develop integrated schedules covering electrical, mechanical, software, systems, test, and manufacturing activities.
- Coordinate prototype builds, engineering units, qualification hardware, and initial production units.
- Lead major technical and program reviews, including PDR, CDR, and TRR.
- Identify and manage program risks involving technical challenges, supply chain constraints, component obsolescence, cost, and schedule.
- Act as a key customer interface for program status, engineering changes, technical decisions, and delivery expectations.
- Work closely with quality and certification teams to support FAA/EASA requirements, AS9100 processes, and aerospace qualification activities.
Technical / Engineering Responsibilities
- Participate in engineering discussions involving system architecture, design trade studies, aircraft integration, wiring, connectors, displays/controls, and environmental qualification.
- Develop and maintain product/system specifications, requirements documentation, and verification compliance matrices.
- Review technical documentation including engineering requirements, qualification plans, test procedures, reliability/safety documentation, and non-conformance reports.
- Translate customer, system, and regulatory requirements into clear engineering deliverables and program tasks.
- Work directly with engineering leads to resolve technical issues that could impact cost, schedule, certification, or product performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes, development workflows, and program execution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience, preferably within avionics, aerospace, defense, or another regulated technical environment.
- 2+ years of technical project or program leadership experience with responsibility for schedules, budgets, risks, and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with aerospace development and qualification standards such as RTCA DO-160, DO-254, and DO-178C.
- Ability to understand and review engineering requirements, specifications, drawings, test procedures, and technical documentation.
- Strong ability to communicate with engineers, manufacturing teams, customers, suppliers, and executive leadership.
- Experience driving technical programs through multiple phases of the product development lifecycle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline or an MBA combined with a strong technical engineering background.
- Experience with avionics, cockpit systems, control/display units, human-machine interfaces, or aircraft integration.
- PMP or comparable project/program management certification.
- Previous experience mentoring engineers or leading technical teams.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
