Job Title: Project Manager – Healthcare ArchitectureJob Description

This role leads complex healthcare architectural projects from initial design through construction administration, ensuring that scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are consistently met. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, and oversees the production and review of construction documents and technical deliverables. This position requires deep experience in healthcare facilities design, strong technical expertise, and the ability to mentor junior staff while driving successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead healthcare projects through all phases of design and construction administration, from inception through completion.

  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables to meet client expectations and contractual requirements.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, healthcare administrators, end users, and project stakeholders, maintaining strong, long-term relationships.

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, and external partners to ensure cohesive and timely project delivery.

  • Oversee the production, accuracy, and quality review of construction documents and technical deliverables.

  • Review drawing packages, including plans, elevations, and details, and provide clear technical guidance and direction to project teams.

  • Present project updates, design solutions, and technical recommendations to clients and internal leadership teams in a clear and professional manner.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare design standards, building codes, zoning requirements, and regulatory guidelines throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Manage complex healthcare facilities projects, including hospitals, medical office buildings, clinical and specialty care facilities, and renovation or equipment replacement projects.

  • Apply strong technical knowledge of building systems, construction documentation, and project delivery methods to resolve design and construction issues.

  • Respond to and manage RFIs and other construction-phase communications to support successful project execution.

  • Utilize Revit Architecture and other design tools to support the development and coordination of construction drawings and documentation.

  • Mentor, support, and develop junior staff, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused project environment.

  • Collaborate with internal studios and shared resources to effectively staff and deliver large-scale, complex projects.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project management processes and standards within the firm.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a closely related field.

  • 12+ years of architectural experience, with a significant focus on healthcare projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to run complex healthcare projects from inception through completion, including design, construction documentation, and construction administration.

  • Substantial experience with healthcare facilities such as hospitals, medical office buildings, clinical and specialty care facilities, and healthcare renovations or equipment replacement projects.

  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems, construction documentation, and project delivery processes.

  • Proficiency in managing construction documents, construction drawings, design development, zoning considerations, and building codes.

  • Hands-on experience with ground-up projects and complex healthcare or lab/life science facilities.

  • Proven project management skills, including scope, schedule, and budget control for large-scale architectural projects.

  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and multiple stakeholders while maintaining strong client relationships.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey design solutions and technical recommendations.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including mentoring and guiding junior staff.

  • Proficiency with Revit Architecture for design and construction documentation.

  • Architectural license strongly preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure may be considered with appropriate experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with science and technology projects, including laboratory or highly technical facilities.

  • Healthcare-related certifications, such as EDAC or similar, are a plus.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD in addition to Revit.

  • Experience progressing from a Project Architect or technical production role into Project Management.

  • Familiarity with healthcare design standards, regulatory requirements, and specialized healthcare planning considerations.

  • Ability to manage RFIs and support construction administration activities effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in reviewing drawing packages and technical documentation.

Work Environment

The role is based in a mid-sized, approximately 50-person architectural firm located in Hackensack, NJ. The firm is organized into four studios—Healthcare, Education, Municipal, and Private—and regularly shares resources between studios to support large and complex projects. The environment is collaborative and project-focused, with opportunities to work on large-scale healthcare and other institutional projects. A hybrid work arrangement is available, with one remote day per week initially and the potential for additional remote days after a three-month review. The firm emphasizes professional growth, mentorship, and cross-studio collaboration, providing exposure to a variety of project types and technical challenges within a supportive team setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Lodi, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $140000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
