Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Engineering Project Manager in Kalamazoo, MI to oversee capital projects from design through closeout, with emphasis on aseptic filling processes. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical) is required.
  • CapEx project management experience across full design to closeout.
  • 5+ years in Aseptic Filling processes.
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, MS Project and MS Project Online.
  • PMP or PE license and a Master’s degree are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop preliminary budgets and schedules for assigned projects.
  • Prepare Capital Project Appropriation requests (CPAs) with justifications and cost estimates.
  • Lead meetings and reporting to stakeholders on project status and changes.
  • Prepare design and procurement documents for services and equipment.
  • Coordinate training and documentation for commissioning and validation.
  • Ensure safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Resolve design, construction, contractual, and financial issues on projects.
  • Oversee start-up and punch-list resolution for new equipment and systems.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Project Team and stakeholders.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements are met on projects.
  • Generate RFPs for equipment/services as needed.
  • Develop User Requirement Specifications for equipment/services.
  • Procure, track, and close out project purchases.
  • Provide complete design documentation for assignments.
  • Prepare documentation for project approvals and change controls.
  • Provide qualification documentation as applicable.

Job Title: Engineering Project Manager
Job Description

The Engineering Project Manager will oversee all phases of capital project management, from design and conceptual estimating to equipment fabrication, construction, commissioning, validation, start-up, and closeout. This role involves developing multi-objective project scopes, financial spending forecasts, and schedules while ensuring compliance with all user codes. The manager will present key project deliverables and scope to multiple stakeholders for approvals and updates throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires managing high-visibility projects, specifically those exceeding $50 million, and primarily supports Aseptic Filling manufacturing processes. The project is expected to run through 2029, with the potential for long-term consulting or permanent employment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop preliminary budgets and schedules for assigned projects.

  • Work closely with project sponsors and stakeholders to prepare Capital Project Appropriation requests (CPAs), including project descriptions, justifications, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, and alternatives analyses.

  • Facilitate meetings, presentations, and reporting to keep stakeholders informed of project status and changes.

  • Develop Request for Proposal documents for design services, construction services, and major equipment items as appropriate.

  • Arrange training for maintenance and operating personnel and distribute appropriate testing, certification, validation, 'as-built', spare parts, and operating or maintenance manual documentation and drawings.

  • Manage and coordinate successful implementation of assigned projects, ensuring safety, timeliness, high quality, cost-effectiveness, and legal compliance.

  • Administer, resolve, and control all design, construction, contractual, and financial issues on assigned projects.

  • Complete assigned projects by starting-up and checking-out all new equipment and systems, inspecting construction, and resolving 'punch list' items.

  • Ensure frequent communication and conduct regularly scheduled meetings between Project Team and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure all applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements are met on assigned projects.

  • Generate requests for proposals for purchased equipment and services as necessary.

  • Lead the process of developing User Requirement Specifications for equipment and services.

  • Procure, track, and close out project equipment and services purchases.

  • Provide or arrange for the development of complete design documentation for assigned projects.

  • Prepare documentation necessary for project approvals.

  • Generate change control documentation as required by project commissioning needs.

  • Provide qualification documentation for assigned projects as applicable.

Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical).

  • CapEx Project Management experience, including full cycle project management from design to closeout.

  • Experience managing multi-million dollar projects ($50+ million).

  • 5+ years' experience working on Aseptic Filling processes.

  • Proficiency in Project Management Systems such as PowerPoint, MS Project, and Microsoft Project Online.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • PMP or PE license.

  • Master's Degree.

This is a Contract position based out of Kalamazoo, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $80.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
