Project Manager

The Project Manager will be the first point of contact for the customer after the project transfer from the Sales department. The product portfolio consists of engines, engine auxiliaries, environmental products, and E&A. The projects are single or multi-product line products related to upgrades, modifications, conversions, repairs, and maintenance on both Wärtsilä and other OEM equipment on marine installations. The Project Manager also participates in the Sales process and is a vital link in customer communication and relationships.

The working environment is very internationally oriented. Projects, production locations, Wärtsilä offices, customers, and suppliers can be found all over the world. Many different nationalities, languages, and cultures are involved.

The position can be based in either Herndon, VA, Houston, TX, Melbourne, FL, or Fort Lauderdale, FL, with a strong preference for candidates located in the Fort Lauderdale area. The role follows a hybrid working model, requiring two days per week in the office.

Responsibilities:

  1. Creation, development, and definition of project plan, including budget, work division, time schedule, and resourcing.
  2. Demonstrating that project management performance is in compliance with Wärtsilä Project Management Methodology and Business Directives.
  3. Successful leadership of the project organisation.
  4. Monitor, control and report quality, delivery time, cost, and scope of the projects.
  5. Maintaining and improving the customer relationship.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have/be:

  1. BSc or MSc in Engineering or a related field. Naval Architect or Marine Engineer is seen as an advantage.
  2. +5 years of experience in the marine sector.
  3. Preferred: Over 3 years of recent experience in managing customer delivery projects within a Project Management role, with a focus on system integration and technical knowledge of power production systems onboard marine and/or offshore installations.
  4. Willingness to actively develop own and others' skills within the project management knowledge areas as well as system integration area.
  5. Excellent communication and team-leading skills.
  6. Ability to work under pressure.
  7. Problem-solving, decision-making, and 'making things happen' approach.
  8. Being forward-thinking and goal-focused.
  9. Fluent in written and spoken English.
  10. SAP and MS Project working experience is an advantage.
  11. Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
