  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and coordination activities.
  • Track milestones, deliverables, and budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation and reports.
  • Support stakeholder communications and meeting coordination.
  • Identify and track project risks and action items.
  • Monitor project performance metrics and progress updates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project execution.

Internship Overview

At Duke Energy, Project Management Interns support the planning, coordination, and execution of critical projects that help deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to our customers. Interns gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced project managers and project teams, contributing to real-world projects while developing leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

As a Project Management Intern, you may assist with:

  • Project planning, scheduling, and coordination activities
  • Tracking project milestones, deliverables, and budgets
  • Preparing and maintaining project documentation and reports
  • Supporting stakeholder communications and meeting coordination
  • Identifying and tracking project risks and action items
  • Monitoring project performance metrics and progress updates
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support successful project execution

Project Management professionals play a critical role in delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget while balancing business priorities, regulatory requirements, and customer needs.

Available Project Management Opportunities
Transmission

The Transmission organization is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining the infrastructure that delivers electricity across Duke Energy's service territory. Project Management Interns may support projects involving transmission lines, substations, system upgrades, and reliability improvements. Interns gain exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects that help ensure safe and reliable service for millions of customers.

Coal Combustion Products (CCP)

The CCP organization supports Duke Energy's coal ash excavation and closure projects, which are a key part of the company's environmental commitment and sustainability strategy. Project Management Interns may assist with project coordination and administrative activities at excavation sites, including preparing environmental compliance documentation, maintaining project schedules, tracking project progress, coordinating stakeholders, and supporting overall project execution. This role provides firsthand experience supporting large-scale environmental remediation and construction projects.

Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or other related degree
  • Must not graduate prior to August 2027
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid, field, and onsite work environment opportunities available
  • Housing stipend available when applicable
  • Some opportunities require a valid driver's license
  • Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility.
  • Many of our opportunities require a 40-hour work week
