Job summary

Mastercard invites applications for a Summer 2027 Intern position with the Hardware Security Module Engineering (HSME) team in St. Louis, MO.

You will contribute to cryptographic platforms, gain exposure to secure-by-design infrastructure, and work on projects that impact Mastercard's global security services. Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or a related field, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
• Exposure to Agile software development methodologies, including a basic understanding of user stories, features, and sprint-based delivery practices
• Familiarity with Jira or similar project management and work tracking tools through coursework, projects, internships, or extracurricular activities
• Demonstrated ownership and accountability in academic, professional, or extracurricular projects, with the ability to drive tasks through completion
• Strong self-motivation and initiative, with the ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed

About the team:

The Hardware Security Module Engineering (HSME) is a high-performing, self-organizing team that delivers secure, resilient, and scalable cryptographic platforms that protect Mastercard's most critical payment and security services. We provide foundational HSM, key management, and cryptographic capabilities that enable application teams to build, operate, and innovate securely on a global scale. What we’re looking for:

Base Salary: $25-30/hr

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
