Hitachi Energy in Raleigh, NC, seeks a Project Lead Engineer to coordinate and execute large-scale EPC projects in grid integration and FACTS technologies. You will manage the full engineering scope, lead cross-discipline teams, and serve as the main technical contact for customers and partners.
The role requires a degree in engineering, 6+ years in technical leadership, and experience with high-voltage systems (69kV+), with PE preferred and knowledge of ANSI/IEEE standards and NEC.
Hitachi Energy is looking for a Project Lead Engineer to join our growing Grid & Power Quality Solutions team in North America. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering innovative grid integration and FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) projects that help utilities increase transmission capacity, improve grid stability, and accelerate the global energy transition.
In this role, you will serve as the technical leader and coordinator across multiple engineering disciplines, acting as the "glue" that brings together complex engineering activities into successful project execution. You will be a trusted technical partner to project managers, customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, overseeing the complete engineering scope from proposal through design, construction, commissioning, and project completion.
You’ll have the opportunity to work on large-scale, multimillion-dollar EPC projects involving transmission-level high-voltage systems and advanced power quality technologies. This position offers the chance to solve complex technical challenges, influence project outcomes, collaborate with global teams, and help shape the future of sustainable energy infrastructure. Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.
This hybrid position is based in the Raleigh/Cary, North Carolina area, with an expectation of working in the office two to three days per week and approximately 20% domestic and international travel.
Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, mechanical, controls, studies, and related disciplines.
Own and manage the complete engineering scope throughout the project lifecycle.
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, suppliers, consortium partners, and project stakeholders.
Drive engineering execution to meet project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Support proposal development through innovative, cost-effective, and value-added technical solutions.
Identify, assess, and manage project risks and opportunities while supporting business growth initiatives.
Provide technical leadership during installation, commissioning, and project startup activities.
Foster collaboration and continuous improvement across project teams and engineering processes.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
6+ years of experience in engineering, project engineering, project management, or related technical leadership roles.
Strong experience with transmission-level high-voltage systems (69kV and above); this is a critical requirement.
Experience supporting large-scale Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE standards and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one, is preferred. Experience with FACTS technologies such as STATCOM, SVC, or Series Capacitors is highly desirable.
