Job summary

Nabors seeks an Assistant Project Lead in Houston to support the Project Manager in achieving project objectives, managing scope, schedule, and budget while guiding small to medium project components and teams.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, at least one year of project experience, strong English communication, and ability to work cross-functionally in drilling operations. This is a full-time, on-site role with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required with a strong preference of business and/or technical backgrounds including engineering, sciences, or mathematics.
  • Previous work experience for a drilling contractor or other related company with direct contact to the drilling industry is considered a benefit, but not required.
  • Project Management Professional certification is considered a benefit, but not required.
  • Should have at least one year of work experience managing projects and/or teams.
  • The ability to read, write, and speak English is required. Fluency in a foreign language is considered a benefit for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project components assigned from the Project Manager, consisting of cross-functional assignments and teams of varying complexity and small to medium size with basic supervision.
  • Support project initiation efforts by contributing to proposals and tenders through development of presentations, pricing, contracts, and technical specifications.
  • Develop and/or oversee project planning documents including but not limited to project execution plans, scope of work, project schedule, cost estimates and project budgets, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Direct and manage execution of assigned project team members for project components including engineers, project controls, contract administrators, inspectors, quality assurance, project specialists, and drilling operations. Ensure work is performed in a safe manner in all aspects of the project.
  • Assumes active role in project interface through distribution of information and management of stakeholder expectations.
  • Serve as a primary contact for communication between the client, contractors, and internal organizations by conveying technical, schedule, and financial information in a timely and professional manner.
  • Help foster a positive and rewarding environment for the project team to effectively execute project objectives.
  • Monitor and control project work through performance reporting, schedule maintenance, and cost/budgeting analysis.
  • Perform integrated change control through scope verification, quality monitoring, risk management, and contract administering.
  • Close project or phase through customer/sponsor acceptance, closing procurements, archiving relevant project documents, and documenting lessons learned.

POSITION SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND VALUES

The individual should be proficient at the following general and technical skills:

  • Knowledge of related drilling equipment, layouts, operations, and rig crew functions is considered a benefit.
  • Knowledge of code requirements pertaining to the design, construction, safety, and operation of both land and offshore drilling rigs including but not limited to API, ASME, ASCE, AISC, ASHRAE, and other related industry standards is considered a benefit.
  • Experience planning project work flow of fabrication, installation and testing is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of discipline specific fabrication and manufacturing design, processes, and testing (i.e., welding, machining, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with rig and equipment testing and commissioning including systems integrated testing (SIT) and integrated acceptance testing (IAT) is considered a benefit.
  • Knowledge of business finance is preferred. This may include interpreting financial statements, evaluating financial performance, financial forecasting, financial instruments and markets, evaluating investment opportunities, and financial risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of business and commercial law is preferred. This may include contracts, terms and conditions, domestic and international trade terms, and general roles and responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD design software is considered a benefit.
  • Must have strong PC skills including Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Power Point, Project and Outlook. Primavera is considered.
