Job description

Ballard Marine Construction isn't a typical heavy civil contractor. We're a specialty underwater and marine construction company delivering innovative technical solutions across the Power, Water/Wastewater, Transportation, Industrial, and Environmental markets. From complex bridge and dam rehabilitation to marine infrastructure and critical facilities, we're trusted to deliver some of the industry's most challenging projects.

At Ballard, safety is not managed from the sidelines. Our Project HSE Leads are embedded within Operations, working directly alongside project leadership, field supervision, craft employees, and subcontractors where the work is happening. You will have the authority, visibility, and support to influence how work is planned, challenge unsafe conditions, and help our teams execute complex projects the right way.

This is an opportunity for a safety professional who wants more than inspections and paperwork. If you are driven by field engagement, operational problem-solving, and protecting the people doing some of the most challenging work in the industry, Ballard offers a role where your judgment, leadership, and impact truly matter.

Job Summary:

The Project HSE Lead is the primary health, safety, and environmental resource for an assigned project. Embedded within Operations, this role works side-by-side with project leadership, field supervision, craft employees, and subcontractors to drive the daily execution of Ballard’s project-specific HSE program.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced construction safety professional who thrives in complex, fast-moving project environments and knows how to build trust in the field. You will help shape how work is planned and performed, strengthen safe execution, and play a direct role in protecting our people while supporting the successful delivery of Ballard’s technically demanding marine and heavy civil projects.

  • Driven and Competitive - We love competition. We love to win and love to learn when we lose. Not getting the job done is not an option. We are obsessed with doing our best and we do what it takes to win.
  • Trustworthy and Respectful - We are passionate about honesty, authenticity, and transparency. No lies. No drama. No politics. We value constructive conflict and ensure that even in conflict we treat others with respect.
  • Ownership and Accountability - When something goes wrong, we first “look in the mirror” before we “look out the window”. We ask, “what could I have done differently?” and then we share lessons learned. Regularly challenging ourselves and those around us to be better is a way of life. “Me first” belongs here.
