Pay Rate: $84,564 - $153,330

Project Geotechnical Engineer

Delve Underground has an immediate opening for a Geotechnical Engineer with 3-10 years of relevant experience to join our Pacific Northwest team (Portland, OR or Seattle, WA) delivering tunnels, trenchless, underground facilities, and water infrastructure projects. This position offers a great opportunity for a motivated, detail oriented, team-centric candidate to work on diverse jobs, from local pipeline crossings to water & wastewater projects across the country. Preferably, the candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering, excavation support design, tunneling, or trenchless technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations for tunnels, shafts, foundations, retaining structures, landslide and slope stability, ground improvement, and seismic evaluations.
  • Evaluate and characterize soil and rock ground conditions for engineering design.
  • Preparation of technical reports and calculation packages.
  • Management of small projects and tasks on larger projects.
  • Oversight of staff engineers and geologists on field assignments and geotechnical analyses
  • Occasional field inspection of construction activities.
  • Work as integral member of a team on complex, multi-discipline projects.
  • Demonstrate good writing and communication skills to work with internal staff and clients.

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering
  • Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities and supervise junior staff on project tasks.
  • Strong analytical and technical communication skills.
  • Familiarity with seismic hazards evaluations such as liquefaction, lateral spreading analyses, and performing site specific seismic hazard analyses
  • Familiarity with soil structure interaction analyses
  • Familiarity with tunnel construction methods and trenchless technologies
  • Familiarity with geotechnical analysis software including Rocscience suite, Shoring Suite or similar programs; familiarity with FLAC, ABAQUS, Plaxis, or RS2 considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in the states of Oregon or Washington, or be able to obtain within 1 year from the date of hire.
  • Willingness to travel for short-term assignments.
