Job summary

American Electric Power on-site in Columbus, OH or Steubenville, OH is seeking a Project Financial Controls Analyst to assist with invoice processing, unvouchered liabilities management, and work order administration for project controls functions.

You will learn to interpret contractual terms, perform invoice audits, support budget reporting for monthly O&M and capital activities, and collaborate with Accounting and Project Management to ensure proper financial controls and governance.

Qualifications

• Education in related field; degrees include Accounting, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Technology, or Project Management.
• With a high school diploma, two years' qualified experience; or no experience with Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
• Experience in utility operations knowledge, cost tracking, budgeting, and accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist with processing vendor invoices for management approval for contract labor and/or material services.
• Perform invoice audit reviews per contract terms and conditions for labor and equipment billing rates, subcontractors, materials, per diem, escalation, overheads, etc.
• Learn to interpret contractual language and financial terms to apply to vendor invoices.
• Assist with disputing vendor invoices for contractual compliance and interpretation vs. billable items.
• Provide material service support including quotes, vendor support, receipting, and tracking.
• Identify and submit unvouchered liabilities per accounting policies and SOX requirements.
• Develop efficiencies to record unvouchered liabilities for un-invoiced vendor services performed.
• Support work order administration activities including setup, in-service reporting, and closing.
• Ensure asset retirements are identified for timely processing.
• Resolve errors with Accounting, Project Management, and other departments.
• Provide support for contract requisitions, bid packages, governance; create templates for business processes and tracking.
• Prepare, monitor, and report monthly O&M and capital budgets.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives for financial and operational processes.
• Develop understanding of financial/operational processes and related systems.
• Align with AEP project management standards and governance.
