The Opportunity

Keen Search is partnered with a well-established construction organization seeking a Project Finance Supervisor to support regional financial performance, project profitability, and operational decision-making.

This role is ideal for a finance professional with experience in construction, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), or another project-based environment utilizing percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of project financials, job costing, work-in-progress reporting, forecasting, and cost controls.

Working closely with regional finance leadership and project operations teams, this individual will help ensure project financials are accurate, forecasts are reliable, and potential financial risks are identified early. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of finance and operations and wants to play a meaningful role in improving project performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor financial performance across multiple construction projects, including budgets, costs, revenue, gross margins, and forecasted profitability.
  • Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, percentage-of-completion calculations, and cost-to-complete forecasts to evaluate project performance and financial exposure.
  • Analyze project financial results against budgets and forecasts, investigate variances, and communicate findings to project management and regional finance leadership.
  • Identify emerging risks involving cost overruns, margin erosion, change orders, billing delays, and inaccurate project forecasts.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of project financial data throughout the project lifecycle.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis
  • Support regional budgeting, financial planning, forecasting, and periodic financial reviews.
  • Evaluate actual project costs against estimates and identify trends affecting profitability and financial performance.
  • Partner with project managers and operational leaders to validate cost assumptions, update forecasts, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis that translate complex project data into clear, actionable business insights.
Revenue Recognition and Accounting
  • Apply knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting and revenue recognition within a project-driven business.
  • Review project revenue, costs, billing activity, contract values, and estimated costs to complete.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities related to project accounting, WIP reporting, and financial reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting requirements.
Cash Flow and Working Capital
  • Monitor project billings, accounts receivable, retainage, collections, and cash flow.
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve billing discrepancies, improve collection performance, and address outstanding financial issues.
  • Evaluate the impact of project schedules, contract terms, and cost trends on cash flow and working capital.
Operational Partnership
  • Build strong working relationships with project managers, operations personnel, and regional finance leadership.
  • Provide financial insight that helps operational teams understand project performance and make informed decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, project controls, forecasting accuracy, and overall processes.
  • Promote accountability for project budgets, cost management, and financial results.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Business related field.
  • Progressive experience in project finance, construction accounting, project accounting, financial analysis, or project controls.
  • Background with an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm, commercial construction contractor, industrial contractor, or other project-driven organization.
  • Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
  • Experience analyzing project budgets, cost variances, revenue, gross margins, and project profitability.
  • Ability to partner effectively with project managers and operational leaders.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with project accounting or construction financial systems.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance professional who understands how project execution translates into financial results. They can identify inconsistencies in project forecasts, recognize potential margin risks, challenge assumptions when necessary, and work collaboratively with operations to improve outcomes.

Candidates with experience in EPC, commercial or industrial construction, engineering services, or other percentage-of-completion project environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to a Senior Project Accountant, Project Finance Analyst, Project Accounting Manager, or finance professional ready to take on broader responsibility for project financial performance.
