You will oversee contract risk, bid strategies with Preconstruction, and maintain financial discipline while fostering relationships with clients, architects, engineers and partners.
As an owner-backed team member, you’ll champion safety and accountability, uphold ESOP values, and drive projects
In this role, you’re a trusted leader and relationship builder, representing Choate Construction with clients, architects, engineers, and partners while growing long‑term relationships that lead to successful projects and repeat work. You’ll lead and support multiple project teams from preconstruction through closeout, setting clear expectations around safety, quality, schedule, and cost, while mentoring and developing team members along the way. Working closely with Preconstruction and Operations, you’ll help shape pursuit strategies, oversee contracts and risk, and ensure financial discipline that protects both client and company interests. Most importantly, you’ll bring a mindset of stewardship—showing up as an approachable, accountable, and people‑focused leader who takes pride in building strong teams, strong relationships, and exceptional projects the right way.
You Network with new and existing clients, architects, and engineers to identify and secure new work opportunities; represent Choate Construction through presentations, meetings, industry events, and relationship‑building activities that promote the company’s reputation; initiate and maintain strong client and partner relationships to support successful project execution, long‑term satisfaction, and the continued growth of Choate’s client base and market presence. You demonstrate strong, professional communication—both written and verbal—when interacting with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors; serve as a trusted owner advocate and collaborative partner who positively influences team dynamics; act as a fair, reliable point of contact that supports project success and business development; and embody a spirit of stewardship by being approachable, mentoring others, and actively supporting the growth and success of all project team members. You lead and oversee Project Managers, Superintendents, and Safety Managers in the development, implementation, and continuous maintenance of Project Specific Safety Plans (PSSPs); conduct and document monthly safety reviews, proactively address evolving jobsite hazards, and recommend corrective actions; respond immediately and effectively to jobsite incidents in alignment with company policy; and consistently model a strong personal commitment to safety with the clear objective of sending every worker home safely each day. You lead and oversee all contractual and risk‑management activities by establishing contract formats; partnering with the DM on owner contract negotiations; maintaining and communicating key contract terms to project teams; reviewing, approving, and resolving all subcontracts and purchase orders in compliance with project goals and company policies; proactively identifying, communicating, and resolving contract, legal, and risk‑related issues in collaboration with the DM and Corporate Counsel; and ensuring project teams protect Choate Construction’s interests related to cost, schedule, and overall risk exposure. You collaborate with Preconstruction leadership to develop bid strategies, schedules, pricing, and procurement objectives; lead operational responses to RFPs, design‑assist/design‑build pursuits, and key estimating activities while providing strategic input on logistics, means and methods, and BIM utilization. Ensure strong coordination between preconstruction, clients, and project teams to maximize opportunity value and deliver successful project transitions. You lead and oversee multiple project teams by setting clear objectives, staffing plans, and performance standards while maintaining urgency and accountability to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget. Provide strategic direction, technical support, and mentorship from project startup through closeout, representing the company in key meetings, leveraging BIM tools, driving continuous improvement, and developing team members in alignment with company policies. You provide comprehensive financial oversight for assigned projects by reviewing and approving budgets, monthly cost reports, owner pay applications, change orders, and all subcontractor and supplier payments to protect both client and company interests. Ensure financial accuracy, timely corrections, effective resolution of payment issues, and proper management of equipment rentals and owner correspondence while maintaining alignment with accounting and leadership teams.
