Job summary

Gradex, Inc. is hiring an Estimator in Carmel, Indiana to prepare detailed cost estimates for roads, bridges, highways, earthworks, utilities, and site infrastructure.

You will develop comprehensive bid proposals, review drawings and specifications, and collaborate with engineers and project teams to ensure profitability and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Proficiency in estimating software (HCSS, HeavyBid) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects by analyzing plans and specs.
  • Develop bid proposals in response to RFPs/RFQs and identify cost savings.
  • Review drawings, specs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform site visits and coordinate with engineers, architects, PMs, and contractors.
  • Build relationships with subcontractors and vendors for sourcing and procurement strategies.
  • Provide detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, and equipment.

Gradex, Inc., a highway civil contractor, is hiring an Estimator in Carmel, Indiana.

OPPORTUNITY:

As our Estimator you will play a pivotal role in the success of large-scale civil construction projects. In this role, you will prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for projects including roads, bridges, highways, earthworks, utilities, and site infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure project profitability and competitiveness while maintaining our high company standards and meeting client expectations. Reporting to the Director of Project Delivery, your thorough understanding of commercial construction, along with a keen sense of customer service, will have a positive impact on the success and profitability of our projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects by analyzing project plans, specifications, and documentation.
  • Develop comprehensive bid proposals in response to RFPs and RFQs and identify risk areas and potential cost savings to improve project profitability.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, contract specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform site visits and collaborate with engineers, architects, project managers, and contractors to assess project scope and requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors and recommend cost effective material sourcing and procurement strategies.
  • Provide detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, and equipment, and maintain an accurate cost database.
  • Prepare final budget proposals and participate in project handover meetings to communicate critical estimate details to the project team.
  • Lead estimating teams on larger projects, mentor junior estimators and collaborate with the business development team to support project opportunities and proposals.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, pricing changes, and technological advancements, and recommend improvements to estimating practices.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating. Will consider those with experience in Industrial or other like kind construction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Expertise in civil, commercial construction methods, materials, and equipment would be helpful.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, HeavyBid) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specs, and contracts.
  • Professional communication and negotiation skills that effectively cultivate relationships and decisions with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with local and national construction regulations and codes.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Process and detail oriented with excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Gradex, Inc. will reward your estimating talents with a base salary of $80k+ depending on your experience. You will also receive a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, 401k, and paid holidays and vacation.
