Job summary

Siemens Energy seeks a Project Engineering Manager to own engineering across power plant projects, leading electrical, mechanical, civil, and control disciplines. You will guide design, cost estimation, and procurement strategy while coordinating with customers and partners to deliver competitive proposals.

The role requires a senior, globally distributed team leadership presence, occasional site visits, and sponsorship-aware employment in the United States.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 10 years in engineering fields related to Power Generation and EPC projects.
  • 5 years in overall technical project management.

About The Role

As the Project Engineering Manager at Siemens Energy, you have full Ownership of all Engineering disciplines in power plants projects comprising of a power island scope within the business area Gas Services.

You will lead and manage, in a project management capacity, a diverse team of Engineering Resources across disciplines such as electrical, plant layout, mechanical, civil, process, thermal, controls, and instrumentation, during the different project phases.

A Snapshot of Your Day

After aligning the bid strategy within the Project Management Team, you will be part of discussions with the Customer’s Engineering Consultant and your Team to clarify and refine the project specifics.

Following this, you will lead the Engineering Team and partners throughout all project phases, including but not limited to a design and scope review, design works, alignment of the sourcing and procurement strategy for the proposal, cost calculation etc., ensuring detailed coordination between disciplines and full compliance with the project requirements.

In addition, you are responsible for holding meetings with all team members to ensure strict adherence to project scope, schedule, and cost.

Occasionally it may be required to visit the customer and or the proposed site and discuss with the customer and/or his consultant to ensure that the engineering concepts for the project are in line with the project boundaries and matching the cost calculation to ensure highly competitive bids.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Support energy transformation initiatives by leading the plant engineering team for Engineering & Procurement (EP) of Power Island Projects in a global environment.
  • Ability to manage the future of energy by interacting with external partners (customers, consultants, authorities, suppliers) and internal collaborators, primarily focusing on technical matters.
  • Leading and integrating the Engineering Team, comprising diverse engineering fields (e.g., electrical, controls & instrumentation, process, mechanical, plant layout, etc.), is critical for building a cohesive team and pursuing common objectives in bid or execution projects.
  • Coordinate evaluation and commenting on customers specifications focusing on technical matters and successfully discuss and agree with customers and/or consultants on technical concepts and requirements
  • Lead the engineering team during the design phase and manage engineering concepts to deliver highly competitive proposals
  • Clarify technical issues, division of responsibility and the related schedule with Customers/Consultants and further internal and external partners
  • Manage the Cost Calculation for the Project, including the engineering budget calculation and hardware cost estimates in coordination with project procurement
  • Successfully handle and coordinate engineering-related risks and opportunities and ensure that technical, contract execution and documentation requirements are reflected in the proposal documentation as well as the related project cost calculations.
  • Organize and represent the technical project development team during internal reviews and quality gates with management
  • After winning the project, organize the successful project handover from the proposal team to the later execution team and/or lead the engineering team during project realization
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
What You Bring
  • University degree, preferably within the field of Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering or similar
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering fields related to Power Generation and EPC Project Business
  • 5 years of experience in overall technical project management.
  • Experience in managing interfaces with bid management and further stakeholders.
  • It would be an advantage having experience in power plants and power plant equipment with site and commissioning experience. The candidate should be open and willing to learn this knowledge within Siemens Energy.
  • Ability to understand the Engineering Interfaces, information needed to be exchanged in between engineering disciplines; to have general knowledge about engineering, but having good knowledge on at least one field of engineering.
  • Customer focus: capability of changing perspectives and adapting strategies and actions to meet the needs of the dynamic environment
  • Leadership capabilities to lead international, globally dispersed Engineering teams covering various engineering fields to successfully execute proposal projects.
  • Flexibility and willingness to be present for limited periods (maximum 20% of your time) at sites, customers, and 3rd parties around the globe as per project needs.
  • Knowledge of German and Spanish or French Language would be beneficial
