Job summary

Software Placement Group, SPG seeks a Project Engineering Manager to lead equipment automation and capital project initiatives in the food processing and meat industry. You will partner with cross-functional teams to translate automation needs into cost-effective engineering solutions.

You will oversee projects from concept through completion, manage multi-million dollar scopes, and travel about 50% to support locations while maintaining documentation and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field plus 5+ years of relevant experience
• 2+ years in a leadership role including team development
• Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational/design issues
• Knowledge of installation/construction project scheduling
• Project management and contract administration skills; ability to interpret codes/standards
• Proficiency in engineering economics and AutoCAD
• Willingness to travel ~50% of the time

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary designs and specifications for engineering and materials, and prepare project cost estimates
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic analyses to ensure viable, cost-effective designs
• Define design criteria per codes and standards, validate field work, and create as-built drawings
• Review projects for accuracy, manage execution by directing vendors/contractors
• Coordinate project schedules with plant personnel, vendors, and engineers
• Direct equipment vendors on layout planning, utilities, and installation timelines
• Review consultant work products and recommend adjustments
• Maintain documentation including manuals, drawings, parts lists, and vendor contacts
• Conduct planning, design, and reviews during pre-project studies
• Prepare scope of work, RFQs, and evaluate submissions
• Submit progress reports to management on deadlines
• Administer contracts and review bid packages for compliance
• Prepare justification, budgets, calculations, plans, and schedules
• Monitor installations to ensure budgets/specifications are met

Location: Cumming, GA | Schedule: Full-time, on-site with travel | Compensation: $115K – 145K plus bonus

Overview

An established company in the food processing and meat industry is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead equipment automation and capital project initiatives. This role partners with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to translate automation needs into practical, cost-effective engineering solutions, overseeing projects from concept through completion.

What you'll do

• Develop preliminary designs and specifications for engineering and materials, and prepare project cost estimates
• Conduct research, feasibility studies, and economic studies to confirm designs are viable and cost-effective
• Determine design criteria based on required codes and standards, validate field work, and create as-built drawings
• Review engineering projects for accuracy and soundness, and manage project execution by directing vendors and contractors
• Coordinate project schedules with plant personnel, vendors, and contractors, aligning with management and engineering teams
• Direct equipment vendors on layout planning, utility requirements, and installation schedules
• Review consultant work products and recommend adjustments as needed
• Maintain documentation including equipment manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, parts lists, specifications, and vendor/service contacts
• Conduct engineering planning, design, and operational reviews during pre-project studies
• Determine scope of work, prepare requests for proposals, and evaluate submissions
• Submit detailed progress reports to management on established deadlines
• Administer contracts, including reviewing bid packages for compliance and completeness
• Prepare project documents such as justifications, budget analyses, calculations, plans, and schedules
• Monitor installations to ensure specifications and budgets are met, and manage assigned budget activities

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or a related field, and 5+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2+ years of experience in a leadership role, including team development and management
• Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues
• Knowledge of installation and construction project scheduling
• Project Management skills, Contract Administration skills, and ability to interpret national codes and standards
• Proficiency in engineering economics
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office products
• Willingness to travel to other locations approximately 50% of the time
• Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry
• Previous experience managing multi-million dollar projects with large scopes
• Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability

Compensation and benefits

• $115K – 145K salary plus bonus
