Job summary

RTX Collins Aerospace in Windsor Locks, CT offers a full-time co-op in Project Engineering within the SDE group, supporting engine control systems projects and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will gain experience across development milestones, design reviews, and supplier interfacing, in a mentored, cross-functional environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 30 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support project tasks of short to medium duration, while ensuring customer milestones are met within budget and schedule commitments.
  • Host cross-functional meetings, manage action items, and drive project execution through action follow-up.
  • Engage with a cross-functional team on engineering change execution.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to support major development milestones, including design reviews, verification or qualification testing.
  • Work with experienced engineers to perform system and component requirements reviews and compliance assessments for complex engine control system components.
  • Support experienced project engineers with engine control system component investigations using root cause and corrective action process.
  • Execute development tasks aligned with Collins engineering standard work.
  • Interface with component suppliers and other members of the integrated product development team (chief engineers, systems engineers, program management, etc.).

What You Will Do

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run May/June- December (including the Fall semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).

As a Project Engineering Co-op at Collins Aerospace, you will work with the Supplier Designed Equipment (SDE) Project Engineering group, located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. The SDE team is focused on leading engineering projects for engine control systems products designed and manufactured by our supplier base. We are engaged at all levels with our internal and external customers during every stage of the aerospace product life cycle (development, entry into service, in-service support). We are a highly collaborative team that interfaces with multiple engineering disciplines, as well as business-related functions. In this role you can expect to gain experience supporting a variety of mechanical products that include pneumatic valves, hydraulic valves/actuators, and heat exchangers on large commercial, military and business aviation engines programs.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience managing projects or working on cross-functional teams
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, Autodesk or equivalent
  • Experience presenting information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience
