Job summary

Aqua America, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer in Hamilton, NJ, to manage capital improvement projects for water and wastewater systems. Job description

Project Engineer

Project Engineer: Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua? We have a great opportunity for a Project Engineer under the direction of the Engineering Manager. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a variety of capital improvement projects for Aqua New Jersey’s water and wastewater systems. You will play a vital role in ensuring the sustainability and improvement of water and wastewater systems across the state. You will be managing multiple projects simultaneously and must be comfortable with both office-based and field-based work. In addition, this role will be responsible for ensuring water and wastewater plants and systems are compliant with environmental regulations.

  • Responsible for planning engineering projects in multiple divisions.
  • Manage the design of both water and sewer improvement projects (e.g., tanks, boosters, lift stations, WTP projects, WWTP projects, regulating vaults, etc.) as needed.
  • Work with hydraulic modeling team to evaluate and mitigate system-wide challenges.
  • Responsible for submittal of any required permits and approvals; prepares and/or supervises the permit applications for selected projects and ensures all required permits are obtained with necessary approvals.
  • Coordinate and manage construction projects including bidding, scheduling, and cost estimating.
  • Enforce contract requirements and perform construction administration on assigned projects.
  • Work with consultants to obtain necessary easements for all assigned projects; negotiate and prepare property easements and oversee the preparation of property descriptions, survey, and legal recording as required.
  • Responsible for managing project financials (e.g., work orders, purchase orders, invoicing, etc.).
  • Collaborate with various departments statewide: operations, engineering, accounting, customer service.
  • Responsible for due diligence for possible new acquisitions.
  • Responsible for reviewing water main extension plans to ensure the plans are in compliance with the Aqua NJ design standard.
  • Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
  • Selected candidate must be a Registered, Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey or have the ability to obtain a PE license within 12 months from hire date.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience is required.
  • Valid NJ Drivers License required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Perform sedentary work – exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents within the State of NJ.
