Job summary

LJA Land Development is seeking a Project Engineer to apply conventional engineering principles to water and wastewater plant design. You will perform design calculations, prepare plans and specifications, coordinate with agencies, and support projects from defined scopes to major phases.

You will design municipal water and wastewater systems, develop calculations and documentation, coordinate with internal clients, and supervise junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
  • Active PE license is required or being registered as such.
  • Experience in water/wastewater facility design is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and design municipal wastewater and water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Develop calculations, plans, specifications, and supporting documentation for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Conceptualize initial design approaches for major phases of large projects or lead engineering work for smaller scopes.
  • Coordinate with internal clients to gather information and ensure project alignment.
  • Schedule and coordinate engineering tasks while addressing complex design requirements.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to junior engineers and staff.
  • Support project management and contribute to project delivery.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Project Engineer at LJA Land Development, you will serve as a fully competent engineer responsible for applying conventional engineering principles to water and wastewater plant design. This role involves design calculations, plan and specification preparation, agency coordination, and supporting projects ranging from defined scopes to major phases of larger, more complex efforts.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE
  • Planning and designing municipal wastewater treatment and water treatment and distribution systems
  • Developing calculations, plans, specifications, and supporting documentation for water and wastewater facilities
  • Conceptualizing the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project or leading engineering work for projects of limited scope
  • Coordinating with internal clients to gather required information and ensure project alignment
  • Scheduling and coordinating engineering tasks while addressing complex or conflicting design requirements
  • Exercising independent judgment to adapt and modify standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Providing supervision and mentoring to less experienced engineers and technical support staff
  • Supporting project management efforts and contributing to successful project delivery
REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 5 years of post‑graduate engineering experience
  • Experience with water and wastewater plant design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience exercising independent judgment in engineering design and problem solving
IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE
  • Water distribution modeling experience
  • Previous project management experience
  • Familiarity with North Texas
