Job summary

RK&K is seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer to join our Roanoke or Blacksburg, VA office. You will work with project managers and team members to evaluate, design, and provide construction services for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil/Environmental Engineering degree and an Engineering in Training Certificate, with 4+ years of related experience. Strong technical writing and client communication are essential, as is proficiency with MS Office

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Engineering in Training Certificate required or encouraged.
• 4+ years of project experience in water/wastewater design, construction administration and inspection.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects.
• Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design of water/wastewater systems.
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Direct and assist with development of project staff and collaborate with subconsultants.
• Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations and plan approvals.
• Participate in community outreach tasks.
• Support field testing and investigations.
• Manage construction projects with office engineering services and coordination with inspectors.
• Provide construction inspection and administration of water/wastewater pipeline, pumping, storage and treatment facilities.
• Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.

Job description

RK&K is hiring a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer to join our team in our Roanoke or Blacksburg, VA office. In this role, you will work closely with project managers and other team members in performing preliminary engineering evaluations, design, and construction services on a variety of municipal engineering projects improving water and wastewater infrastructure.

Essential Functions

• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and costs estimates for water and wastewater projects
• Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater systems
• Preparation and review of technical memoranda, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents
• Direct and assist with the development of project staff and collaboration with subconsultants
• Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations and approval of plans
• Participate in community outreach tasks
• Support field testing and investigations
• Manage construction projects with office engineering services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, change orders, site visits and coordination with inspection personnel)
• Provide construction inspection and administration of water/wastewater pipeline, pumping, storage and treatment facility construction projects.
• Communicate effectively and coordinate with clients, project teams including other engineering disciplines, designers and subconsultants

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field
• Engineering in Training Certificate
• 4+ years of increasingly responsible, project experience in the study, design, and construction administration and inspection of water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure (pipelines, pump stations, treatment, and storage)A self-starter, practically minded, versatile, and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the Water and Wastewater Group
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills
• A solution minded individual with an appetite for problem solving
• Demonstrated proficiency in the documentation, organization and presentation of project data
• Proficiency with Microsoft Professional Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and REVIT is desirable
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) License in Virginia or the ability to obtain
• Familiarity with hydraulic modeling software (Bentley WaterCAD/GEMs) is a plus

Salary range: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour - Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
