Job summary

Fehr Graham is seeking a Project Engineer with a focus on water and wastewater to join our East Peoria, IL office. This role supports municipal clients and collaborates across disciplines to deliver reliable water infrastructure solutions.

The ideal candidate holds a PE license in Illinois or can obtain it within 12 months, with at least four years of relevant experience and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Growth, teamwork, and client-communication are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • PE license in Illinois or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; knowledge of WaterCAD, SewerCAD or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist in planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater projects for municipal clients.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and reports for water treatment facilities, distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, lift stations, and stormwater systems.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling, cost estimating, and permitting tasks related to water infrastructure.
  • Work closely with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders to ensure project requirements and compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and designers.
  • Support project management functions, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and client communication.
  • Conduct field investigations, inspections, and construction oversight as needed.

What you’ll do

We are seeking a skilled and driven Project Engineer with a strong background in water and wastewater engineering. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who is passionate about water infrastructure, enjoys working with municipal clients, and thrives in a collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate holds a Professional Engineer (PE) license or has the ability to obtain it within 12 months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or assist in the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater projects for municipal clients.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and reports for water treatment facilities, distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, lift stations, and stormwater systems.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling, cost estimating, and permitting tasks related to water infrastructure.
  • Work closely with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders to ensure project requirements and compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and designers.
  • Support project management functions, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and client communication.
  • Conduct field investigations, inspections, and construction oversight as needed.
What it takes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional engineering experience, with emphasis in water, wastewater, or stormwater projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Proficiency with engineering software including AutoCAD Civil 3D; knowledge of WaterCAD, SewerCAD, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory permitting processes and local/state/federal requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
