Job summary

R-2 Contractors, a nationwide leader in civil and underground construction, is hiring a Project Engineer (I–III) to support utility-scale power and renewables projects in Gilbert, AZ. This on-site role offers hands-on experience with plans, RFIs, submittals, and coordination with project teams on active job sites.

Travel up to 50% and the chance to grow into a Project Manager while building your expertise in scheduling, cost tracking, procurement, and field leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction field or project coordination is required.
• Ability to read plans and specifications and to support RFIs and submittals.
• Interest in schedules, quantities, costs and project details that keep work moving.
• Clear communication and proactive collaboration with field leadership and vendors.
• Willingness to travel to active jobsites; related degree valued but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support project managers with planning, scheduling and coordination.
• Read drawings, review specs, and assist with submittals and RFIs.
• Monitor costs, quantities, and procurement for ongoing projects.
• Collaborate with field teams to ensure project milestones are met.
• Identify issues early and propose practical solutions.

You don’t need to be a fully developed Project Manager on day one. You do need construction fundamentals, organization, clear communication, and the drive to learn. We’ll teach you R-2’s systems and processes while giving you meaningful responsibilities—not just a seat on the sidelines.

What you bring

• Construction field or project coordination experience; two or more years preferred.
• Ability to read plans and specifications and support RFIs, submittals, and project documentation.
• Interest in schedules, quantity tracking, materials, costs, and the details that keep projects moving.
• A proactive, dependable approach to working with field leadership, vendors, and project teams.
• Willingness to work on active jobsites and travel; a related degree is valued, but equivalent experience counts.
