Job summary

Collins is seeking a motivated Structural Design Project Engineer to contribute to our Canton, Massachusetts team. You will work on drafting, plan set development, and structural detailing for transportation infrastructure, with load rating experience and exposure to MassDOT, MBTA, NHDOT, and RIDOT projects.

The role includes on-site presence three days per week and opportunities to mentor junior staff. The ideal candidate has a civil engineering degree (B.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
• EIT or PE certification preferred.
• Experience with drafting and structural detailing for transportation infrastructure required.
• Experience with MassDOT, RIDOT, NHDOT, Massport, and MBTA standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering information to project manager to ensure compliance with standards, codes, specs, and design instructions.
• Review and analyze design issues and provide recommendations.
• Perform engineering computations and prepare complete engineering plans or reports.
• Use CAE tools to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Lead small to moderately difficult projects from inception to completion.
• Direct and supervise entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and staff.
• Attend meetings and coordinate with clients/government agencies as needed.

We have opportunities for you.Collins is seeking a motivated and experienced Structural Design Project Engineer to contribute to our team in Canton, Massachusetts. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting, including plan set development and structural detailing for transportation infrastructure projects in addition to having experience with, and a desire to expand their knowledge in, structural design and load rating of bridges and other related transportation infrastructure. This role is 3 days on-site/week.This position provides the opportunity to lead assigned tasks and projects, consult with clients and government agencies, and work on various structural design and load rating projects for MassDOT, MBTA, NHDOT, and RIDOT. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated, technically driven professional who is looking for career growth.Typical Duties and Responsibilities:Provide technical engineering information to project manager to ensure the project complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.Review, analyze, and provide recommendations on-field and/or design issues.Independently performs moderately difficult engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.Prepare complete engineering plans or reports.Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.Keep project manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.Responsible for small to moderately difficult projects from inception to completion.Has limited communication with clients.Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.Direct and supervise the work of entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff.Other duties may be assigned.* Relocation is availableClick HERE to see the variety of benefits Collins has to offer.Education and/or Experience:Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in civil engineering (with a focus on structural engineering a plus) from an accredited four-year university.Minimum 2-5 years’ experience or the equivalent thereof.Experience with drafting, including plan set development and structural detailing for transportation infrastructure projects required.Experience in the design and analysis of transportation structures preferred.Experience with MassDOT, RIDOT, NHDOT, Massport, and MBTA standards and procedures preferred.Experience with AASHTOWare BrR and BrD, CSi Bridge, STAAD, OpenBridge, LEAP, PGSuper, and other related design and analysis software preferred.Experience with AASHTO bridge design standards is required and/or experience with AREMA Standard Specifications preferred.Experience with drafting using Autodesk, AutoCAD, or Civil3D required.Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification.Valid driver’s license.
