Larson Engineering, Inc. has a long-standing record of success since its establishment in 1979 and is a recipient of the PSMJ A/E/C Employer of Choice award. Larson is an Equal Opportunity Employer and wants to remove any barriers to employment. If you have any accommodation requirements as part of the application or interview process, please let us know. Larson Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced, licensed Professional Engineer to serve as a structural Project Engineer, leading and executing front‑end engineering and detailed design projects for processing facilities, including pulp & paper, chemical processing, power production, and heavy industrial manufacturing. This role offers the opportunity to lead challenging technical assignments while building trusted client relationships and contributing to business growth. We are looking for a highly motivated, technically proficient engineer who thrives in a consulting environment, enjoys managing complex design challenges, and is eager to take increasing ownership of client and project success.

Description

The Project Engineer will independently lead technical design efforts across multiple projects, serving as both a hands‑on technical resource and a primary client contact. This position requires strong structural design capabilities, multidisciplinary coordination, cost estimating, and direct client interaction. You will develop projects from conceptual planning through detailed design and construction support, guiding junior staff, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and delivering high‑quality engineering solutions that meet client needs. This position is ideal for engineers ready to take a leadership role in project execution while actively building lasting client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the firm.

Specific Responsibilities Include
  • Lead and execute structural engineering tasks for industrial projects, including pulp & paper, chemical, power, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets while coordinating work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop conceptual designs, structural layouts and models.
  • Perform engineering calculations.
  • Develop capital cost estimates, project schedules, and material specifications.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, designers, drafters, and technicians as part of the project team.
  • Serve as primary client contact for assigned projects, maintaining strong, trusted client relationships and identifying future business opportunities.
  • Perform site visits, field verifications, and construction support throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers to ensure design integration and constructability.
  • Prepare technical reports, project summaries, and recommendations for clients and internal review.
  • Participate in proposal preparation, client meetings, and business development activities.
  • Travel to client sites as needed (typically less than 25%).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, with emphasis in structural design required. MS in structural engineering preferred.
  • Experience with current AISC Manual, ASCE7-10, ACI 318-14 and 2018 IBC.
  • 5+ years of experience in structural design using steel, concrete and masonry.
  • Solid interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • PE licensure preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Experience with structural analysis software (RAM).
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
