Job summary

Primoris Renewable Energy seeks a Project Engineer to coordinate pre-construction through closeout, leading Field Engineers and aligning with home-office controls. You will supervise design, permits, economics, and safety while ensuring reliable, cost-effective, and safe plant designs.

The role requires 3–5 years in renewables, EPC experience preferred, and a willingness to relocate to project sites for 6–15 months. Strong communication and scheduling skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience in renewables; solar experience is a plus
  • Experience as a Project Engineer in EPC firms is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks
  • Ability to present to groups of 10+ people
  • Involved with two or more trade disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical, commissioning)
  • Proficient with MS Office, Acrobat/BlueBeam, scheduling tools, Visio, and engineering software

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project tracking and reporting across engineering disciplines
  • Support safety, quality, and design assurance programs on site

  • Provide project controls input: budgeting, spend reporting, and cash flow
  • Prepare and update engineering PPTs for PV/HV site oversight
  • Assist Site Manager with indirect cost activities
  • Support continuous process improvement and cost/production analysis

Job Overview:JOB OVERVIEWThe Project Engineer (PE) is responsible, from pre-construction, execution and through to close out phases of the project for coordinating with internal home-office engineering and managing engineering firms to ensure the project is following processes and standards to ensure the plant achieves reliable, quality, cost effective and safe designs. The PE has the responsibility for engineering and design technical matters at the project site. The PE also updates, maintains, and schedules internal meetings to review engineering concerns, permits, agreements, operational planning, material issues, utility installation, and project controls related to schedule and cost performance reviews.The PE collaborates with the home-office Project Controls team (schedule and finance) and is responsible for progress reporting, cost control analysis, project cost forecasting, cash flow development and progress reporting, change management and contingency management. The PE is located on a project site and reports project controls related information of the daily operations of the project by working closely with the Project Manager, the Site Manager, Trade Superintendents and Field Engineers. Field Engineers report directly to the PE - the PE will lead the training efforts of the Field Engineers to ensure Primoris’ processes are learned, developed, and demonstrated.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Engineering: The PE is responsible for coordinating with individuals, managing engineering firms, and following processes and standards to ensure the company achieves reliable, quality, cost effective and safe designs. The Project Controls Engineer has the responsibility for engineering and design technical matters at the project site, including:Directly lead, coach and mentor a team of Field Engineers (FEs), including how the FEs support Trade Superintendents, as well as project tracking and reporting.Support the project’s safety program and protocols in all aspects of project design, engineering, and construction execution activities.Support the project’s quality assurance program and protocols to ensure every effort is made to build the project right the first time.Coordinate all design issues with Trade Superintendents and third-party engineers (EOR).Act as engineering liaison for the construction team, third-party Engineer of Record, client and internal engineering resources from award through final completion.Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process.Coordinate documents for construction with the Engineering Team and field operations.Manage site document control system.Coordinate, manage and oversight permitting.Coordinate with Field Engineering and third-party engineering to complete As-Built records.Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Assist the site in promptly identifying and addressing issues.FE Reporting Audit: Ensure accuracy, consistency and timeliness in reporting (e.g., progress maps, POD, Monthly/Weekly reports, 3-week look-a-heads).Engineering Calls: Update engineering PPT on design, permits, and operations open items for the PV and HV sites of the project.PV EOR Calls: Manage and update the agenda on ACC for PV engineering oversight, including submittals and RFIs.Project Controls: The PE is the site-based Project Controls representative and is responsible for the following activities:Update and collaborate with the PM and home office Project Controller on project budgeting, spend reporting, trend analysis, change order management and cash flow reportingDaily, weekly and monthly internal and external project reporting.Provide input to the PowerPoint presentation for Quarterly WIP.Ensure crew matrices and production trackers are being developed and updated by Trade Superintendents.Weekly schedule updates.Helping the Site Manager with indirect cost activities (Gas, Ice, Water, Site Trucks).Process Improvement: Regularly review and refine processes for efficiency.Cost and Production Analysis: Support Field Engineers with tools and formulas for analyses.Ad-hoc reports requested by the Client.May assume responsibility for site operations in the Site Manager’s absence.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.3-5 years of experience in renewables, solar experience is a plus.Experience working as a PE in an Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm is a plus.Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).Detail oriented.Accounting (math and record-keeping).Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.Ability to give presentations to groups of 10 or more people.Involved with and understands two or more trade disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning).Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, e-mail), Adobe Acrobat/BlueBeam, P6 or other scheduling applications, Visio and engineering software applications.Effective communication (oral, written, presentation), motivation, and supervisory skills.Project Engineers are expected to re-locate to the project site for the duration of each construction project they are assigned to (project duration averages 6-15 months)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).Must pass a physical exam if required.Able to:Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations).Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
