Job Summary

The prospective engineer will serve as the AEP Engineering Lead for assigned projects and will be responsible for managing all aspects of engineering activities and coordination with other AEP Engineering Sections to ensure proper engineering oversight.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinate the overall engineering activities among AEP, Developer, Architect Engineer (A/E), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for Generation capital projects.
  • Provide regular engineering progress updates to the project team and stakeholders.
  • Experience overseeing multi-discipline engineering work is preferred.
  • Occasional travel to AEP generation facilities with some overnight stays will be required.

All employees will be returning to the office full-time effective 6/1/25.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Technical Expertise: Exhibits journey-level proficiency plus advanced knowledge, enabling the engineer to serve as a leader within the assigned organization.

Leadership & Guidance: Provides guidance and exercises judgment in directing other engineers. Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities within and outside the organization, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and regulations. Promotes engineering professionalism and standards.

Planning & Organization Ability: Develops plans by setting measurable goals and objectives. Initiates corrective actions when objectives are not met.

Problem Solving & Initiative: Identifies, clarifies, and resolves routine and complex problems, often involving analysis of conflicting data. Develops opportunities and presents new ideas and approaches.

Communication: Coordinates work effectively, develops reports on technical subjects clearly, and leads meetings efficiently.

Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates collaborative and consensus-building skills. Functions as a team leader and member, leveraging networks to accomplish tasks.

Decision Making: Makes informed decisions based on analysis of uncertain inputs and outcomes, assessing risks and acting accordingly.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Typically 6+ years of engineering experience with a bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited engineering program; or 4+ years with a master's/PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • PE registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.*

Acceptable alternative:

  • Bachelor's in engineering (non-ABET) plus a master's or PhD from an ABET-accredited program. Confirmation required for PE licensing standards.

**VP or above may waive the degree requirement from a non-ABET-accredited university.

Compensation Data

Grade: SP20-008

Range: $96,110.00 - $124,940.00 USD

The physical demand level is sedentary, involving minimal exertion.
