Project Engineer, Heavy Civil / Highway

A large heavy civil contractor with a national footprint and a busy Florida program is hiring a Project Engineer for highway and bridge work in the Pensacola, FL area.
This is a strong opportunity for a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, Office Engineer or Assistant Project Manager with heavy civil experience who wants bigger projects, a stable long runway employer, and a real path to Project Manager.
You'll support project management and field operations on roadway, bridge, drainage and infrastructure projects, much of it DOT work.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Support project managers and superintendents on active heavy civil projects.
- Handle RFIs, submittals, drawings, transmittals, approvals and project documentation.
- Track cost, quantities, production, materials, equipment and schedule updates.
- Schedule work activities and material deliveries with the field team.
- Assist with budgets, forecasts, cost reports and change orders.
- Communicate with owners, subcontractors, vendors, field crews and project leadership.
- Review drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Spend 20 to 30 percent of your time in the field, seeing the work get built.
- Support safety, quality and contract compliance.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of engineering experience on heavy civil, highway, road, bridge, drainage or utility projects.
- Strong RFI, submittal, documentation, cost tracking and schedule exposure.
- Ability to read plans, specs and contract documents.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
- FDOT or other DOT project experience is a plus.
- Primavera P6, HCSS or Bluebeam experience is a plus.
- EIT or PE is a plus. Spanish is a plus.
- Pensacola, Panhandle and Gulf Coast candidates preferred. Candidates open to relocating to the Pensacola area are welcome.
